      Description: Job Summary:

The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is seeking an IT Technical Associate (Server Engineer).

This position will be responsible for proactively maintaining the server and desktop infrastructure across multiple locations to ensure high availability of mission critical applications.  Ability to efficiently resolve issues at the server and desktop levels is critical. In addition to maintaining the environment, responsible for recommending and implementing technological improvements, and supporting the team in delivering mission critical projects.

 

Duties: Key Responsibilities / Duties:
  • Plans hardware needed for business/clinical systems and programs to be distributed to employee desktops
  • Responsible for assigned server groups and applications/programs
  • Builds, maintains and configures servers for desktop distribution or application software
  • Meets with assigned departments requesting technical information systems assistance
  • Analyzes departmental needs and recommends solutions including analyzing resource requirements
  • Works with user departments to implement solutions
  • Loads and tests assigned software
  • Troubleshoots hardware and software failures/anomalies from level 2 or 3 helpdesk calls related to application distribution or desktop access
  • Monitors system performance, recommends and implements adjustments to improve efficiency
  • Ensure that IS Infrastructure and Operations stay abreast of emerging products and trends
  • Create proper documentation and run book of all system builds and processes.
  • Manage problems and problem escalations in accordance with ITIL standards.
  • Manage projects
  • To be on a 24x7 support rotations as designated by the IS Manager Administrative Coordinator  Server and Service Desk Manager
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications: Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  2. Demonstrated experience building, configuring and maintaining large client server environments.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the installation, configuration and support of Exchanges, SCCM and VMware.

Preferrred Qualifications:

  • ​Three years of WAN client server IS experience which included two years of successful experience building, configuring and maintaining large client server IT experience.

All civil service positions require an exam.  The exam for this position is a Credentials Assessment.  You will not be required to report in person for this exam.

Credential Assessment Exam Scoring Information:

You will not be required to report in person for this exam. The updated online application and all uploaded, relevant documents, such as a resume and/or college transcript will be used in the calculation of the exam score. These documents should be uploaded prior to the position close date.
