Goal of the Project: The Communications Advisor VISTA will help enhance marketing

and media materials for network partners and improve communication methods

throughout our network and enhance our internal communications with the human

resources team.

Objective of the Assignment (Period of Performance: 08/01/2018-08/01/2019)

To improve the communications for the Food Bank, internally, as well as external communications to network partners. Provide communications improvements for our network partners in an effort to increase their capacity in various areas, e.g., volunteer recruitment, more efficient processes, etc. as needed.

Member Activity: Assess network partner needs for marketing and media: Step 1: Research best practices and identify best-in-class agencies to analyze their current communication plan for application. Step 2: Work with Agency representatives to identify top 5-7 agencies that are in need of assistance; set up one-on-one meetings about their needs and goals Step 3: Develop a communication plan that the team at the agency can support. Step 4: Help the agency execute the plan.

Member Activity: Design and develop templates for use by all network partners for specific projects. Step 1: Review current templates and update Step 2: Make recommendations for new templates, based on learnings from the focus groups and on Food Bank programs for network partners. Step 3: Design new templates and manage distribution and communication to network partners of how to use them. Step 4: Develop strategy for communicating statistical data and talking points to network partners with suggestions on using data in their own communications.

Member Activity: Assess and review social media and blog post opportunities. Step 1: Review existing materials and trending topics. Step 2: Develop copy that will both support the Food Bank and keep it top-of-mind for social media users, leveraging research, industry publications and more.

Member Activity: Review tracking of media coverage for the Food Bank and network partners. Step 1: Review how the Food Bank currently tracks coverage. Step 2: Recommend system for enhanced tracking to capture coverage of the Food Bank and network partners, working alongside the team. Step 3: update the communications media list with relevant reporters and notes from articles that run.

Member Activity: Review and recommend enhanced talent acquisition communication strategies and branding efforts to promote volunteer and seasonal engagement opportunities to Food Bank. Step 1: Hold focus group discussions in collaboration with HR to review internal communications in first quarter. Step 2: Partner with VISTA Project Managers and leadership– including knowledge experts in HR, communications, outreach, facilities management and other stakeholders in driving marketing of positions. Step 3: Recommend enhanced strategies for key internal communications platforms including town hall and newsletter. Step 4: Develop internal communications documents and collateral including flyers, brochures and calendars for distribution. Step 5: In collaboration with HR and Communications as sponsors conduct communication audit between Food Bank and network partners to assess and recommend enhanced communication strategies.

Member Activity: Assess and create leadership development toolkit for managers and agency leaders (food pantry and soup kitchen), thereby aiding in addressing skill and knowledge gaps to ensure operations at the Food Bank and our agencies continue to be sustainable. Step 1: Interview Agency leaders and Vice president of HR regarding vision and purpose. Step 2: Develop various templates for University to promote resource. Step 3: Develop marketing campaign to promote.
