General Summary:
The Correctional Case Manager is responsible for providing effective comprehensive services and individual interventions to each of the residents on his/her assigned caseload. He/she is also part of team that provides group services and interventions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide active case management, including coordination among all staff servicing each of the case manager’s assigned residents. This coordination involves, but is not limited to, security, job developers, basic skills and staff delivering group programs.
  • Complete, accurately and timely, all paperwork, procedures and periodic reports required by IDOC and/or Safer. Maintain audit ready case files at all times.
  • Maintain awareness of all facts, incidents and observations surrounding each of his/her assigned residents. He/she notices and draws reasonable conclusions from the actions, demeanor, statements, etc. of each resident and makes recommendations for solutions to address issues that arise.
  • Appropriately administer corrective action in conformity with IDOC regulations and Safer policy. Corrective action should be designed to further program objectives to the extent possible.
  • Proactively participate in a variety of collective programming including the orientation of new residents.
  • Promote programs that reduce or eliminate facility’s failure to return percentage and increase facility’s employment retention percentage.
  • Participate in training that is germane to exhibiting good case management skills.
  • Administer intermittent client satisfaction surveys
  • Render assistance to the Security Department as necessary.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics and societal trends and influences
  • Knowledge of computer-based applications such as Microsoft Word, Axiom
  • Skilled in active listening and conveying information to others effectively
  • Skilled in Social Perceptiveness (Being aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do
  • Skilled in Critical Thinking, judgment and decision-making

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in a related discipline (counseling, psychology, criminal justice) with 2 years of experience (preferably in a correctional setting)
