Summary:

The Physical Therapist I evaluates and treats patients using the principles and practices of physical therapy and in accordance with the patient's age, developmental level, and diagnosis. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team. License-eligible therapists would perform duties under the supervision of a licensed therapist in accordance with the Illinois Physical Therapy Practice Act.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates patients, establishes goals, and develops individualized treatment plans as prescribed by a licensed physician/practitioner.


  • Provides direct patient treatment based on current physical therapy practice and revises treatment plan based on the patient's response.


  • Provides education to patient and family/caregiver regarding patient's abilities and need for assistance and continued therapeutic intervention.


  • Recommends modification or changes in the patient's treatment program to the referring physician based on evaluation of progress. Confers as necessary with physicians concerning alternatives available.


  • Prepares written/computer treatment documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as physician orders, evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports.


  • Participates in the interdisciplinary patient care communication and rounds to ensure efficient coordination of the overall health care plan. Communicates with other professional staff and patient's family/support system to provide continuity of care.


  • Arranges work schedule to make efficient use of direct and non-direct patient care time. Provides weekend coverage according to guidelines of rotation/department.


Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree is required. Candidates must be graduates of an approved school of Physical Therapy in accordance with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.
  • Master's and/or Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy are preferred.

Computer Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Current State of Illinois license in Physical Therapy or License eligible for new graduates.
  • Current CPR certification required.
