IS Business Relationship Manager

IS Business Relationship Manager - INF001205

The IS Business Relationship Manager is the strategic liaison between IS and assigned Business Partners - responsible for building and managing relationships; demonstrating IS's focus on engagement to support our partners; and serving as a "trusted advisor" and primary point of contact. This individual is responsible for understanding business direction and needs, in order to drive formulation of solutions and roadmaps; providing insights to technical solution capabilities, leveraging internal solutions and investigating external solutions. The BRM assists business partners to determine how to achieve business results quicker through technology. They are responsible for defining the strategic approach to understanding the needs of the business (stakeholder management and demand management) and they work with suppliers to meet these needs. Additionally they define, and gain agreement on the principles for establishing effective relationships between stakeholders, including ultimately the responsibility for the relationship between IS functions and business partners.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities
  • Participates in business planning - VP, Sr. Director, Director, and Sr Manager planning and status meetings, cultivating relationships between IS and Business Partners at mid though senior levels.
  • Collaborates with the IS Leadership Team and Extended Leadership Team to develop and implement forward-thinking improvements that advance IS's ability to deliver more, faster and with a high degree of quality.
  • Takes a leadership role in shaping technology services aligned to the strategic direction of the business partners they support. Responsible to stay abreast of industry and technology trends that impact or support business partners.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of IS and the service catalog, and assigned departments/business partners to identify and communicate how IS solutions can support the achievement of short- and long-term business goals.
  • Serves as the main IS contact for Business Partners on projects and initiatives that require technology input.
  • Promotes effective teamwork and manages the resolution of interpersonal issues, serving as a point of escalation. Coordinates closely across IS functional areas that are supporting Business Partners - stays aware of project status, delays, etc. Works across IS to broker support and commitment of business needs.
  • Responsible for effective stakeholder management -to create positive relationships through management of expectations and agreed upon objectives. Provides IS Leadership Team insights to the needs and concerns of business partners ("pulse of relationship").


Experience and Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in related discipline or equivalent experience required; Masters or MBA degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant technology experience in multiple business and technical areas is required.
  • Familiarity with business strategy/ processes and expertise in designing business solutions that link disparate processes and application systems is required.
  • Technical acumen in one or more Information Technology disciplines is required.
  • Business acumen in at least one of the Business Partner domains (Marketing, Sales Operations, Engineering, Finance, Customer Service, HR, etc.) is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a relationship management role is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving capability and out of box thinking to ensure forward movement in IS Planning Management is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Requires understanding of project management methodologies and tools with prior exposure to project management practices with an ability to break down complex problems into manageable goals.
    • Ability to excel in a cross-functional, matrix team environment is required.
    • Prior experience managing diverse cross-functional, cross-departmental projects and technologies highly preferred.
  • Involvement in developing, modifying, and executing IS strategies is required.
  • Requires knowledge of outsourcing methodologies and operating models, and working with professional services firms.
  • Business knowledge of the wireless industry is required.
  • CBRM certification is desired.
