This position interfaces with vendors to understand the long range capabilities of new services and how they fit with the US Cellular planned customer offerings and technology architecture. This position, in collaboration with the architecture team, evaluates vendors for best-of-breed architectures, products, services and pricing through competitive RFPs, technical trials and proof-of-concept work, and provides recommendations to USCC senior leadership for vendor selection and implementation considerations. The Senior Services System Engineer provides input and in rare cases helps develop business cases for recommendation to senior leadership. Once a direction is approved, the Senior Services System Engineer is responsible for developing the high-level designs (HLD) which are to be implemented in our production networks and test plans based on HLD.

They function as subject matter experts to ensure that wireless data technologies are deployed in accordance to the recommended architecture. The Senior Services System Engineer provides guidance for overall lifecycle planning management. Finally, the Senior Services System Engineer must be able to leverage debugging skills in the resolution of problems that surface during technical trials.

  • Partner with vendors and internal USCC teams to plan CDMA, LTE, VoLTE, IMS, and RCS equipment life cycle, new architectures, and technology improvements (key features) on a semi-annual basis.
  • Develop and communicate platform-level roadmaps, including date of manufacturer discontinuance and lifecycle support protocols.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise for wireless data technologies
  • Develop and document detailed High Level Designs (HLD) based on requirements and architecture
  • Develop and document test plans based on HLD
  • Develop engineering standards and guidelines to be used at USCC for LTE, VoLTE, IMS, and RCS.

  • Run simple simulation models to study network performance or capacity questions
  • Lead Cross-functional teams to ensure consistent and clear communications
  • Support other cross functional teams such as number management, regulatory, contract management etc. as required.
  • Interface with all project stakeholders, including Marketing, Regional Engineering and National Network Operations
