Sr Business Intelligence Analyst - FIN000869

As part of the Finance department, the U.S. Cellular® Shared Analytical and Data Services team (SANDS) is comprised of highly technical resources with diverse backgrounds in data warehousing, business intelligence, analytics, forecasting, and CRM. The SANDS team is responsible for delivering data solutions, analytical tools, campaign execution, and business insights to our stakeholders in Marketing, Finance, Customer Service, and Sales Operations.

The Business Intelligence Senior Analyst is responsible for leading the technical execution of moderate to very complex Cognos development, including Cognos design, Cognos performance measurement, Cognos analysis & modeling. Also responsible for process/environment improvement and vendor management.

• Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements to develop solutions to meet their needs
• Acts as the lead resource in coordinating both the measurement and evaluation of all business client reporting for stakeholders assigned; works collaboratively with stakeholders to examine business results and explore reasons for good and poor performance
• Required to design, build, and apply programming and database logic and filters for the generation of business reporting using U.S. Cellular's Standard Reporting suite of software tools (currently IBM Cognos)
• Designs and builds suitable models (generally Excel-based) to calculate the performance of a variety of business activities
• Defines the data needed to populate reporting performance models and works collaboratively with team members to develop and execute data extraction processes to obtain the required data
• In partnership with other business client stakeholders, presents the results and evaluation of business activities to leadership in formal readout and governance meetings.
• Tracks the overall impact and nature of changes in business activity effectiveness and/or efficiency over time, particularly those changes that are enabled by key enterprise capability development initiatives
• Designs and leads the execution of moderate to complex business reporting tools, including the following:
• Business metrics and performance (e.g. gross adds, churn, ARPU, response rates)
• Understanding various attributes of the customer base (e.g. device, price plan, number of lines, etc)
• Reporting business activity and other information by channel
• Provides mentorship to other levels within the department, including Business Intelligence Associate Analysts and Business Intelligence Analysts
• Manage small projects within the department or broader organization
• Lead cross functional teams when needed for broader departmental requests or enterprise initiatives

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required; Master's degree in information technology, statistics, finance, or economics preferred; MBA a plus
• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a relevant field
• Advanced knowledge of database extraction and data manipulation using SQL or other standard reporting tools
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Visio
• Experience with reporting tools, ideally Cognos. Other tools could include Microstrategy, Business Objects, Tableau, or Qlikview
• Ability to work with clients and cross-functional groups
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to think broadly and critically about a problem/request and apply business, company, and industry acumen to develop a solution
• Ability to work closely in a collaborative manner with peers and managers across the organization
• Advanced and demonstrated Excel modeling skills
• Experience with Visual Basic preferred or a similar programming language
• Experience in analytical tools such as SAS
• Data management experience
• Significant knowledge of wireless industry or other industries with similar analytical structures
• Strong presentations skills
• Ability to develop analysis and insights generation independently with limited engagement from manager or peers
• Ability to manage and develop for complex reporting needs, including event triggers, dashboards, and information delivery
• Cognos suite of tools
• 5+ years of experience in Cognos reporting development including Cognos environment management, execution, measurement, and database
• Must understand both operational measures as well as financial measures for business client stakeholder area.
