SUMMARY

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for assisting in the delivery of skilled, technical care as appropriate to the clinical area, unit and/or department needs, and according to established policies and procedures. LTACH patients are medically complex with multi system failure including but not limited to ventilator dependent, complex wounds, multiple lines, tubes and drains.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ADLS such as eating, drinking, dressing, bathing and personal hygiene.

Maintain skin integrity by frequent position, skincare and passive range of motion as applicable.

Transports patients to and from other departments as needed. Works with rehab department for out of bed program on a daily basis.

Takes vital signs, daily weights, intake/output, blood glucose and records in EHR. Reports significant changes to RN.

Performs specific, technical patient care procedures such as administration of enemas, applications of heat and cold, specimen collection and line suctioning as needed. Participates in daily rounding.

Answers call lights promptly. Renders assistance to patient if appropriate, or refers to the registered nurse.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or one year patient care technician experience in a healthcare setting required, but students currently enrolled in an approved nursing school program may be considered. One year patient care technician experience in a healthcare setting required, but students currently enrolled in an approved nursing school program may be considered.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Meditech.

Bilingual skills preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

CPR Certification required.

Certified Nurse Assistant Certification preferred.
