Professional House Parent

OVERVIEW:We currently have an opportunity available for a Professional House Parent at our Foster Care Emergency Shelter. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy, positive, long-term living environment so that the children entrusted to the Agency's care may become healthy, productive adults.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Provides a healthy, clean, safe and secure home environment for the children.
  • Develops, in conjunction with the child's Case Manager, and implement individual progress plans.
  • Ensures the educational growth of their children. A pro-active attitude and response is required which requires: active participation in the school; setting expectations for attendance and performance; active participation in homework and enrichment programs; advocating for children's needs; willingness to serve as a surrogate parent for special education needs.
  • Administers prescribed medications as needed, and document all such interactions. Complete all required documentation related to medical incidents/reports, and medication management as required by the Agency and DCFS.
  • Ensures that the children receive proper medical, dental and emotional care.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates Must be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid Illinois driver's license with acceptable driving record and proof of automobile insurance coverage. Candidates must possess good verbal and communication skills, demonstrate the experiences, beliefs, attitude and awareness that indicate cultural sensitivity to the client population served.
The ideal candidate will be able to partner with clients individually, in family, to help them mobilize resources and their inner capacity to address problems they face. They must also be able to coordinate effectively with other team members, use Agency resources and or outside services in addressing client needs.
Education:A high school diploma is required. Some post secondary education, continuing education or training in early childhood education or child care is a plus.

Experience:Experience working with children in an educational or clinical setting is required. Previous nanny or au pair experience is a definite plus.
