SUMMARY

The OB/GYN Hospitalist provides comprehensive gynecologic and obstetrical care to patients as either the primary or back up provider as required throughout the hospital. In conjunction with care provided, Hospitalist provides consultative services and collaborates with ancillary medical staff, completes required medical documentation, submits billing for services, participates in the supervision, education and evaluation of Residents, and contributes to quality and performance improvement efforts of the hospital.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Physician shall fulfill the following services in addition to other services that may be requested by the Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer and/or Vice President of Patient Care Services and Administrative Operations, to the extent permitted by law and applicable rules of professional ethics:

  • Function as a group practice in providing medical back up/consultation to the midwives

  • for cases which exceed Nursing Midwifery scope of care inclusive of C-sections, forceps deliveries, operative vaginal deliveries, D&C's, ectopic deliveries, normal vaginal deliveries when needed, etc. Care will include f/u and daily rounding on these patients.

  • Care for all other patients that present without a primary OB/GYN. Patients without a

  • primary OB/GYN will be cared for by the OB/GYN Hospitalists while in the Hospital, then discharged to the care of a rotating list of assigned physician. OB/GYN hospitalists will be responsible for giving report to the oncoming OB/GYN Hospitalist in order to effect a safe hand-off for these patients from one shift to the next.

  • Is available for consultation or admission for patients coming in through the Emergency

  • Department and floors for any Obstetric issues (19 weeks and above to 6 weeks post-partum) and gynecologic consultations that come in through the Emergency Department. If there is need for a gynecologic intervention for a patient coming in through the Emergency Department, it will be covered by the OB/GYN on ED call.

  • Will cover any emergent Obstetrical or Gynecologic case needing to be taken to surgery

  • while the primary OB/GYN or OB/GYN covering ER call is on their way in to the hospital.

  • Will be available for assistance in the Emergency Department for obstetrics related

  • emergencies that cannot be transported to a Tertiary Center or to the Family Birthplace.

    Education and/or Experience

    Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

    Must have proof of Ultrasound training if graduated from residency prior to July 1996.
