Job Description

Job Summary:

Leads/mentors staff in working with assigned customers/areas to translate business requirements into application/system solutions. Primarily responsible for backup and storage restoration solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs daily operations in a Veeam, NetBackup, Backup Exec and Data Domain environment to backup, recover and archive company information and requires interaction with other regional offices and individuals to identify incidents, diagnose and resolve problems, and assist with backup and restoration.
  • May be required to support different shifts to enable 24x7 support. Also must be available on call as & when required.
  • Supporting and troubleshooting backup, recovery and archiving in a large, complex and widely distributed environment.
  • Perform daily monitoring and management of the backup solution implemented across the infrastructure facilities as per pre-defined policies & procedures.
  • Monitor backup jobs, execute restore jobs, troubleshoot failed jobs, and initiate corrective action.
  • Provide status and progress reports for backup environment related activities and tasks on regular/periodic basis.
  • Perform reliable, secure backup and recovery across the enterprise in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Perform diagnosis, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of Backup solutions currently installed within the infrastructure, provide technical expertise to resolve escalated issues, maintain archives in accordance with policy and procedures, perform planning, testing, implementing and deploying new backup products and maintaining existing solutions, e.g. upgrading and patching.
  • Ensure environment and software compatibility of NetBackup, Backup Exec and Veeam solutions to be installed, implemented, and integrated with the existing environment.
  • Provide action items and next steps for backup solutions projects.
  • Proactive measures to ensure adequate storage capacity is available, else initiate for enhancement.
  • Identify and manage support issues, coordinate communications between various operations groups and OEM's to resolve complex issues.
  • Create and update documentation for backup procedures, solutions, licensing and applicable project artifacts.
  • Provide technical expertise through discussions and demonstrations,
  • Provide periodic, informal, on-site/off-site knowledge transfer, as needed to other storage group members and to designated employees covering the management, normal operation, and maintenance of the backup infrastructure.

Qualifications


Education:
  • Bachelor's Level Degree
    • Bachelor's degree required

Work Experience:
  • Seven years of experience preferred.
  • Certification on 250-271 for NetBackup preferred .
  • Four years' experience with NetBackup, Backup Exec, Veeam backup and recovery software products in a large, complex environment.
  • Ability to monitor 600 to 900 backup jobs daily including, identifying issues and taking corrective action.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Windows, Unix Operating System and familiarity with SQL databases.
  • Strong proven troubleshooting and Analytical abilities in a large scale operational environment.
  • Able to communicate effectively in person, in writing and over the telephone.
  • Ability to mentor team members and plan solution proactively.


Preferred Technical Skills:
  • EMC, Data Domain experience including D2D, D2T and VTL
  • VMWare systems
  • Unix Operating Systems (Solaris, IBM AIX, HP-UX, Linux)
  • Familiarity with SharePoint
  • Familiarity with Ticketing system
  • Familiarity with SAN and NAS
  • Familiarity with full life-cycle software applications development, i.e. requirements, design, installation, testing, Implementation, operations, maintenance, sustainment and documentation.
