About Northern Illinois Food Bank:

Northern Illinois Food Bank provides nutritious food to all those in need through our own efforts and those of our 800 partner agencies in the following 13 counties - Boone, DuPage, DeKalb, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will and Winnebago. Northern Illinois Food Bank acquires, gathers, handles, and distributes approximately three million pounds of donated, government, and purchased food each month through local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth activity centers and other food assistance sites.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
Northern Illinois Food Bank is seeking a Child Nutrition Delivery Driver to deliver after school snacks and/or suppers and backpacks to youth program sites located throughout Winnebago county in a food bank van or straight truck, and to report site activity. This position will be Mondays through Fridays (30 hours per week). 

Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Load delivery into Northern Illinois Food Bank vehicle by site and by route, and verify that the assigned truck is at proper temperatures.
  2. Ensure that each route has accurate delivery and invoices prior to departure.
  3. Ensure that the warehouse and docking area are free of debris.
  4. Deliver to youth sites.
  5. Contact site staff when running late or early.
  6. Professionally communicate with all site personnel upon delivery.
  7. Contact the Youth Nutrition Program Manager (YNP) should any programmatic issues arise.
  8. Keep the vehicle filled with fuel and comply with all DOT requirements and report maintenance needs to the Director of Transportation.
  9. Empty the vehicle of milk crates, pallets, boxes, shrink wrap and/or coolers.
  10. Maintain excellent handling and filing of all site invoices.
  11. Report site activity to the YNP Manager.
  12. Complete other tasks as assigned by the YNP Manager, Transportation Manager, or Center Manager.
  13. Assist with other transportation functions such as Food Recovery, Agency Deliveries etc.

Competencies

  1. Must have a Class D Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  2. Must be able to lift 70 lbs.
  3. Must have the ability to maintain accurate counts of inventory, records, and pay attention to details
  4. Must be flexible, responsible and able to work independently, following a strict schedule
  5. Must have proven ability to relate well with others

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive and lift up to 70 lbs.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. This position is approximately 30 hours a week.
