Information Technology Technical Associate
The Healthcare Application Analyst - Lab IT will provide primary system administration for all pathology laboratory information systems (LIS) which support the clinical and business operations of the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System. Systems of support include the Laboratory Information System application, middleware, and interfaces, the Pathology Information system, laboratory financial billing systems, as well as associated laboratory outreach systems.
- Develops and builds solutions to automate laboratory/clinical activities and healthcare operations. Responds to application change and modification requests generates reports for reporting and billing purposes.
- Maintain a detailed knowledge of the integrated and interfaced systems currently operational to support the Laboratory Operations at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System.
- Evaluate operating systems and procedures in areas of information flow, cost analysis and systems software, implement recommendations on redesign of new technical and managerial systems and procedures.
- Evaluate, install, configure, test and update computing hardware and software systems.
- Test software updates to ensure that processing of patient results is accurate and reliable before the software is moved into production.
- Coordinate and install HL7 or ASTM order/result interfaces to Outreach clients including specification negotiation and testing.
- Assist in building and maintaining Outreach client database.
- Analyze and resolve system problems, including functional as well as performance issues.
- Run daily logs of various programs updates in order to ensure that timeframes are met.
- Assures compliance to University and Hospital ITS security standards and practice.
- Write, document and maintain system Policies and Procedures.
- Review customer requirements; perform analysis, design, and documentation of current state and future state workflows for the Department of Pathology Clinical Laboratory.
- Identify improvements and suggest changes to new policies, procedures, or work practices.
- Engage with vendors and maintain vendor relationships. Participate in analysis of vendor solutions and enforce vendor service level agreements (SLA). Contact vendor to resolve issues.
- Assist in development of specifications and standards to ensure adherence to regulatory, medical, campus and university standards.
- Provide application support on a 24/7 basis.
- Provide technical consultation for existing and future information resources issues.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems management, related information management field or a clinical area of study.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in information systems, laboratory information systems, healthcare information systems, or similar experience in clinician/practicing clinician.
- Working knowledge of build tools in healthcare software applications.

- Working knowledge of build tools in healthcare software applications.
- Knowledge of system management principles, application development and application testing strategies.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal and communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and balance work demands.
