Provides clinical leadership for Presence Cardiology and Interventional Serviceline with a primary focus on program development, clinical operations, community outreach & support, patient care, quality & service excellence,and regulatory compliance & certifications. Provides leadership in organizing and administering the programs by ensuring that services are developed, provided, supported, monitored and financially successful.

Key responsibilities include the operational oversight of the departments of Cardiology, Cardiac Rehab., Pulmonary Rehab.,Respiratory Services, EMG, Neurodiagnostics and Interventional Services (Cath, EP, Neurointerventional) Works collaboratively with the Cardiovascular Surgical Team. Will collaborate closely with all physicians and surgeons including the Section Chair of Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Cath Lab, Neurosciences Medical Director and all related discipline Medical Directors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strategic planning and decision making: In collaboration with Vice President Nursing, Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Regional Strategy and Growth Officer and Presence Health System Leader of Cardiology, assists in the development of the Strategic Plan for Cardiology and Interventional Services Program at Presence Health that is aligned with the organizational vision. Translates the plan into goals and objectives for own team, sets priorities and directs the efforts of staff toward accomplishing those goals and objectives. Analyzes market strengths/weaknesses of current program and identifies opportunities for business development and growth, service improvements and improved financial performance. Integrates key physician leaders into planning and management of patient care services.
  • Business Growth: Creates and implements plans to increase patient volume through assuring physician and patient satisfaction with all Cardiology clinical operations.
  • Financial Acumen: Applies key financial concepts and analysis to decision making. Understands drivers of financial performance (e.g., physician referrals, capacity utilization, payment denials) and takes these into account in developing strategies and making decisions. Develops department operating budget and ensures implementation of cost management strategies. In collaboration with key cardiologists and administrative leaders, develops and prioritizes operational expense and capital budget requests Develops strategies to achieve goals for cost management and develops financial indicators to monitor progress for review and analysis of financial performance.
  • Service Orientation and Customer Focus: Sets and maintains high standards for service to patients and their family, physicians, and other hospital departments. Incorporates needs and concerns of diverse constituencies into decision making. Measures patient and physician satisfaction and develops and implements plans to improve satisfaction.
  • Accountability: Ensures the development of the standards of performance, evaluation of performance, and initiates or makes recommendation for personnel action. Holds team and self responsible for maintaining the highest possible performance standards and meeting agreed upon commitments even under difficult circumstances.
  • Managing Relationships: Provides regular updates on program or project progress and works with Vice President Nursing to minimize risks and resolve problems. Maintains appropriate communication among Cardiology and Neurosciences physician leaders regarding hospital activities as well as overall clinical performance, working in a collaborative manner to align physicians with Presence Health. Uses objective measures to assess employee satisfaction and leads collaborative efforts with team to enhance employee satisfaction.
  • Motivating and Influencing: Inspires staff enthusiasm for and generates commitment to program goals. Builds support for changes in direction among people with diverse interests, needs, and values. Promotes employee engagement initiatives with the managers to retain the highest quality staff.
  • Assessment of Current Clinical Programming for Outcomes and Develops New or maintains Current Programs to Achieve Excellence: Supports the continuous quality improvement process by maintaining quality improvement standards, including facilitating quality improvement teams utilizing the Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) & Breakthrough Improvement techniques. Insures patient safety and highest quality of care through development and adherence to patient safety standards, policies and procedures. Understands, articulates and ensures compliance with the National Quality Forum Patient Safety Practices as well as patient safety practices that may be mandated by any regulatory agency. Insures that the clinical operation of the Cardiology Program complies with the standards established by Illinois Department of Public Health, other accrediting agencies, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American College of Cardiology, ICAEL, and all applicable registries. Coordinates the preparation for inspections, conducts mock inspections, and insures appropriate records are maintained. Responsible for adherence to department safety, environment and infection control standards.
  • Developing People: Determines staffing requirements in alignment with Premier staffing goals established within the system. Selects and attracts outstanding staff from diverse backgrounds. Identifies and fills gaps in team skills and knowledge. Defines development objectives for staff that support performance goals and progress toward future skill development. Trains, orients and assigns department staff (either directly or through subordinates). Ensures that staff meets all educational and clinical requirements as defined by federal law. Assists staff in developing their own careers by encouraging them to articulate their career goals, offering challenging growth opportunities, and providing necessary coaching and training. Collaborates with others responsible for organization wide education to assure that learning needs are identified and addressed.
  • Collaboration: Effectively facilitates shared decision-making, planning and problem-solving with all departments, but especially Cardiology & Neurology related departments and services to create an overall excellent, seamless experience for patients and their families.

    Education and/or Experience

    Masters degree in Nursing, Health/Hospital Administration, Business Administration or other related degree required.

    10+ years progressive career advancement in Cardiology and Interventional Services, demonstrated success in a management position. Ability to demonstrate participatory leadership style, successful strategic planning & analytic problem solving. Working knowledge of accreditation, safety, quality improvement, shared governance and project management. Must have demonstrated management and productivity

    Computer Skills

    Efficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Excel, Word & Powerpoint; Epic systems; Peoplesoft, and Kronos Payroll Systems.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Registered Professional Nurse Licensed in the State of Illinois strongly preferred.

    Specialty Certification is encouraged (i.e. FACHE, AONE, other).
