Description: Job Summary:

The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System - Information Services Department is seeking an IT Technical Associate (Linux Systems Administrator)

This position is responsible for design, analysis, evaluation, testing, debugging an implementation of critical computer systems.  This role handles large-scale platforms serving customers numbering in thousands. There is a high standard of performance and availability.  Experience with networking fundamentals, storage fundamentals and troubleshooting is necessary.

 

Duties:  Key Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Administers a mid-size site alone, or assists in administration of a larger site
  • Install software, apply patches, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts.
  • Business continuity planning
  • Hardware/software configuration and management
  • Perform root cause analysis and determine cause of problems in order to develop specific solutions to an issue
  • Support the integration and implementation of UNIX/LINUX systems and applications, and provide operational support for the same
  • Monitor UNIX/LINUX environments for continual availability and high performance.
  • On call 24 x 7 Operational Support
 
Qualifications: Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:
  1. Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
    1. progressively more responsible work experience in IT-related profession
    2. college course work in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 60 semester hours or Associate’s Degree equals one year
      • 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor’s Degree equals two years
  2. Demonstrated UNIX/Linux Administrator experience with RedHat Linux, HP-UX, IBM AIX, experience with enterprise level backup and recovery.  Experience with UNIX shell programming and Perl, LAN & SAN connectivity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related study preferred.  
  • A minimum of two years’ experience as a UNIX/Linux Administrator, experience with RedHat Linux, HP-UX, IBM AIX, experience with enterprise level backup and recovery. 
  • Experience with UNIX shell programming and Perl, LAN & SAN connectivity & troubleshooting.
  • Attention to detail, excellent written and verbal skills required. Ability to perform most security audits. 
  • Strong analytical skills, knowledge of software programming and development, administration and implementation; knowledge of data management software.
