SUMMARY

The Patient Access Representative I performs registration and admission functions to provide information to maximize reimbursement, achieve collection ratios, and meet account receivable (AR) goals. Provides information to all other providers and users of patient data. Ensures that patient meets financial and insurance requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Registers, pre-registers, and admits all patient types, specific to the assigned Presence Health facility/department while pushing Workstation on Wheels and bending to assist and push patients in wheelchairs. Maintains department productivity, accuracy, and quality assurance standards while performing these duties. Ensures data is entered accurately for all patient demographic and insurance information. Completes all required legal documents, and obtains and scans all other related documents.
  • Performs cash collection functions, patient pricing estimation, admission, and discharge and transfer functions.
  • Ensures that financial protocols and requirements are met while providing access to service at Presence Health facilities by reviewing account documentation. Maintains and applies current knowledge of insurance requirements when verifying eligibility and confirms authorization is secured prior to forwarding patients to service delivery areas; escalates unsecure financial accounts to management.
  • Seeks assistance from Financial Counselors when needed to maintain patient flow while resolving financial issues and ensuring financial clearance of account. Provides information and assistance to patients to ensure they understand the Financial Assistance policy and application process. Provides Financial Assistance applications to all uninsured patients.
  • Communicates with service delivery and other departments to resolve issues that impact patient services and schedules and escalates patient service issues that cannot be resolved in accordance with departmental guidelines.

    Education and/or Experience

    High school graduate or GED is required.

    Previous experience in hospital admissions, business office and/or physician's office with knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Must be able to accurately type 25 words per minute.

    Computer Skills

    Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word and Excel).

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Must pass internal competency examinations to demonstrate understanding of Patient Access Services functions within one year of hire.
