SUMMARY

The Dosimetrist provides Radiation Dosimetry for patients through treatment planning, assisting with machine calibrations and equipment quality control as directed. Assists the Radiation Physicist/Radiation Safety Officer in the performance of measurements required for the radiation sources, in the set up and quality control of the treatment planning computer system, and in the management of radiation safety in the hospital and/or medical center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs all aspects of treatment planning including image fusion, contouring, and generation of treatment plans by selecting appropriate techniques to deliver the prescribed dose to the desired treatment volume, under the guidance of the physicist and radiation oncologist.

  • Assists the Radiation Oncologist in treatment, planning, definition and optimization and obtains for the Radiation Oncologist all the input required for treatment, planning and delivery. Responsible for dose calculations, Computerized Tomography (CT) simulations, and weekly patient chart checks.

  • Provides and/or assists in the construction of any needed radiation beam modifiers and/or compensators. Promptly communicates to the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Physicist/ Radiation Safety Officer any inconsistency with the Radiation Oncologist's written devices.

  • Generates the required hard copies of the physicist/radiation oncologist's approved treatment plan and related images to the IMPAC system. Verifies all plan parameters are transferred correctly; releases the plan.

  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and/or Experience

    Knowledge of Radiation principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of equipment as normally acquired through completion of two years post high school training in an approved School of Radiation Therapy Technology or Medical Dosimetry Program required. Minimum two years of experience as a Registered Radiation Therapist, with simulation responsibilities.

    Minimum of two years of experience as Medical Radiation Dosimetrist preferred.

    Computer Skills

    Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Current Illinois license practice Radiation Therapy and CPR certification is required.

    American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD) certification preferred.
