SUMMARY - Neurology Technician (EEG Tech), EEG Department, Part Time /Day shift, St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee

The Neurology Technician I is responsible for performing all neurodiagnostic tests, Electroencephalogram (EEG), Nerve Conduction Velocity (NVC), Evoked Potential studies, and Long Term EEG monitoring as ordered to provide information to interpreting MD. Establishes efficiency in scheduling and coordination of diagnostic testing. Ensures all test are performed according to established quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Calibrates equipment and performs quality control checks.

Obtains relevant patient medical history and documents each patient's record according to department standards. Provides patient instructions regarding procedure.

Accurately apply electrodes, non-invasive stimulation devices, and holter recorder per policy. Activates devices and record responses. Records EEG while observing, monitoring, and documenting patient responses

Measures and calculates muscle and nerve responses and makes adjustments to minimize artifact and identify significant abnormalities. Monitors patient responses and enter data into computer.

Retrieves printed reports, tags and plot patient data information, and documents each patient's record according to department standards.

May assist physician with needle sticks and record responses as well as Measures and calculates muscle and nerve responses while entering data into computer.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or GED required. One to two years' clinical experience in neurodiagnostics required.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Registration by American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologist (ABRET) preferred. CPR certification required.
