General Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Advancing Careers and Employment (ACE) Program, the Intake Specialist works in conjunction with other program staff, specifically the Employment Specialists, in Pre-Enrollment Phase deliverables for The DOL Intermediary Grant Program – Advancing Careers and Employment (ACE) which is designed to help justice-involved adults ages 25 and older to embark on career pathways and advance as they acquire industry recognized skills and credentials in in-demand sectors and occupations.  

The Intake Specialist will be located at Safer’s Quad Cities’ office which is within the 7th Judicial District, Department of Correctional Services building and is responsible for client orientation, intake assessments, providing and recommending appropriate external referrals. Through assessment, s/he is responsible for summarizing the education/ training history, fit and talent and sector interest of each client for pathway determination.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support ACE enrollment outcomes through community outreach and recruitment
  • Provide thorough client orientation and assessment using established tools/techniques
  • Review and assess client education/training and sector interest for ACE training pathways
  • Assist in making client suitability recommendations to the program team
  • Document all client interactions in the appropriate databases and systems accurately and timely
  • Submit data/detail as assigned and required for audits, quarterly, monthly, or random reports

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated critical thinking, judgment and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of barriers faced by people with criminal records
  • Aptitude for assisting resistant clients
  • Strong attention to detail, good time management; ability to multi-task and produce work products with minimum supervision
  • Active listener with knowledge of group dynamics, societal trends and influences
  • Demonstrated ability to write accurate and detailed case notes
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) applications
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Access to a (reliable) automobile is required for travel as necessary to carry out responsibilities

 

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in a related discipline (counseling, psychology, criminal justice)
  • A minimum of two years’ successful experience working with formerly incarcerated individuals and/or disadvantaged populations
  • Experience with start-ups and multiple-site operations

All positions are Full-Time (40-hours/week) and located in the Chicago Metropolitan area, unless otherwise specified.
