Coordinate and complete quality review activities for the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Program. Collaborate with CDI Leadership to develop educational opportunities to achieve agreed upon annual quality and productivity targets. Share quality review outcome with CDI Leadership and staff for performance improvement. Assist in the creation of quality indicators for the CDI program. Coordinate and provide CDI and ICD-10 educational opportunities to the CDI staff and Medical Staff, as related to clinical documentation improvement opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement a plan for monthly audits/reviews of records reviewed by the CDI Team and review records to identify missed documentation opporuntities, determine accuracy of CDI staff work in the CDI tool and identify educational opportunities for program enhancement. Make recommendation for performance activities for Clinical Documentation staff

    2. Perform data gathering and analysis, data interpretation, and formulate conclusions and recommendations for process improvement.

    3. Identify training needs for staff and provide education that meets the expected requirements of the program under the direction of the System VP Risk, Quality, Patient Safety and in collaboration with the System Directors. Implement ongoing Clinical Documentation education for new staff, including physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals in collaboration with the System Manager.

    4. Identify Clinical Documentation improvement issues and work collaboratively with the System Directors, Managers and other appropriate ministry staff for process solution.

    5. Monitor DRG mismatches and work closely with the CDI staff and coding Managers for resolution.

    6. Serve as a resource for clinical knowledge, IPPS and ICD-10 codes through by answering questions and presenting educational programs to the CDS, Clinical and Medical Staff as appropriate.


  • Education and/or Experience Required

    > RN inpatient clinical documentation specialist experience. CCDS and BSN preferred.

    > Three (3) years recent Acute Hospital Inpatient Clinical Documentation Improvement experience

    >Five years inpatient nursing experience. Critical care or ER setting preferred.

    Expectation: certification of CCDS within 1 year of assuming position if not already certified

    > Current Registered Nurse licensed in the state of Illinois
