Northern Illinois Food Bank provides nutritious food to all those in need through our own efforts and those of our nearly 800 partner agencies in the following 13 counties - Boone, DuPage, DeKalb, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will and Winnebago. The Food Bank acquires, gathers, handles, and distributes approximately three million pounds of donated, government, and purchased food each month through local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth activity centers and other food assistance sites.

Summary/Objective
To support Northern Illinois Food Bank’s volunteer team and its related requirements including the recruitment, tracking, scheduling, reporting, and nurturing of volunteers on a part-time basis. Manage volunteer data through volunteer software system. Provide any other administrative and clerical support for the volunteer program, as needed. Strong focus on a high level of customer service to volunteers at the West Suburban Center
Essential Functions
- Schedule requires candidate to work every Saturday morning and four evenings a month (20 hours per week)
- Assist with greeting, orientation, and touring of volunteer individuals and groups
- Lead, train and motivate groups of up to 200 volunteers, ages 8 and up, in a fast-paced, safe, and fun environment
- Interact with volunteers during shifts assuring they have what they need to be successful; answer questions and make connections while doing so to encourage volunteer retention
- Take photos of volunteers during each shift to be posted to social media after the shift
- Design effectives ways to improve the customer service and retention of new and weekly volunteers
- Assist with basic volunteer e-mail, telephone, and other inquiries
- Foster strong relationships with operations team in order to keep lines of communication open regarding volunteer needs and managing shift production for planned and unplanned volunteer absence
- Manage volunteer profiles and schedules through volunteer software system
- Support projects for volunteer groups as needed
- Other duties as assigned

- Excellent relationship building skills
- Ability to provide excellent customer service while multi-tasking
- Strong organizational skills
- Must be able to comfortably and effectively present to groups up to 200
- Must be able to make a fundraising ask to volunteers and guests
- Past experience working with databases such as CiviCore and Raisers Edge is a plus
- Proficient with various computer programs including: Word, Excel, Power Point

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machine.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. This is largely a sedentary role, however, may frequently need to ascend/descend stairs.
