SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Pharmacy Director, Manager, Supervisor and/or Pharmacists, serves as a lead on automated dispensing machines and Pharmacy Technicians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Runs various reports from automated dispensing machines. Conducts drug audits to confirm quantities, proper storage, and alignment according to expiration date. Works with staff members to identify usage errors or inventory discrepancies and initiates corrective action.
  • Prepares and distributes reports for ministry staff.
  • Performs or coordinates maintenance and cleaning on machines. Inspects dividers are in place and verifies proper functioning of machine. Replaces missing or broken machine items and contacts outside vendor for troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Serves as a team member on automated system projects such as implementation or replacement of machines. Includes working with engineers on set up and configuration.
  • Maintains barcode and dictionary databases within system(s). Enters and updates new and existing drug and user information.
  • Trains Nursing Staff, Pharmacist, and Pharmacy Technicians on utilizing automated dispensing machines and assists with questions.
  • May assist management with scheduling of Pharmacy Technicians.
  • May be required to perform the function of a Pharmacy Technician.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • 5 years of pharmacy experience in an institutional pharmacy setting preferred


Computer Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of computers and automated dispensing systems


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Illinois Pharmacy Technician License required. If not licensed, may consider hiring with the stipulation that the license must be received within 60 days of hire.
  • Certificate by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required unless grandfathered. If not certified, may consider hiring with the stipulation that certification must be received within 2 years of licensure.
