SUMMARY - ULTRASOUND TECH - Full time - hours 1 - 9 pm - Glenwood Imaging Center, St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet

The Ultrasound Technologist performs all sonography imaging studies under the general supervision of a licensed practitioner for the purposes of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders at a technical level not requiring constant supervision and within the scope of their license and/or certification requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs all sonography imaging studies with appropriate application of technical and positioning protocols, safety procedures and proper image identifying criteria according to department policy and procedure. Verifies physician orders for instructions from requesting physician and consults with the radiologists as necessary. Explains procedure and provides education as appropriate.

  • Assists patients to and from examination and waiting rooms. Transports and transfers patients onto exam/treatment table.

  • Performs equipment warm up, calibration and safety check. Operates hospital computer system. Reports to supervisor any equipment malfunctions. Operates equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines for appropriate quality control.

  • Observes sterile and infection control techniques. Provides self-care instruction to both patients and family/caregivers.

  • Documents accurately and promptly departmental records (film, file and computer) patient name, exam date, film/image markers, clinical history, complaints, allergies, etc. Reports reactions, complications, changes in condition etc. to radiologist, physician, supervisor, peers and/or nursing unit.

  • Performs staff/student education and orientation duties.

  • Acts as a steward for quality process improvement and resource management.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and/or Experience

    Graduate of an approved program in Ultrasound Technology; three years' on-the-job Sonography training with demonstrated skills may be considered in lieu of graduation from an accredited program.

    Two years of technical experience preferred.

    Computer Skills

    Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Excel required.

    Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Licensed sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Registration/certification in Sonography from ARDMS and/or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or be eligible for certification within 24 months of graduation from an accredited Ultrasound program. CPR certification is required.
