Overview

The Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist's role is to work with PCM's customers to assist them in understanding their Software Environment. The SAM Specialist will utilize PCM's best practice procedures, tools and resources to assist our customers in controlling their software costs as well as the associated legal and financial risks. The SAM Specialist will be based from a home office.

The SAM Specialist will:

 

  • Reconcile customers' software license entitlements with actual software installs/usage to determine the customers' license compliance position.
  • Organise and analyse customer purchase information to establish an accurate and complete summary of license entitlements.
  • Help customers collect, organise, and then analyse customer install/usage information ("software inventory") to establish an accurate and complete summary of license consumption.
  • Reconcile those entitlements (and the Product Use Rights, rules, allowances, etc. they embody) with hardware/software inventory information to produce a compliance summary. The successful candidate will be expected to understand all aspects of the software life-cycle - from licensing to purchasing to deployment to decommissioning.

 


Responsibilities

 

 

 

  • Analyzes purchase records and other entitlement information (including contracts, EULAs, EAs, etc.)
  • Understands Product Use Rights, license allowances, and contractual entitlements for software products and manufacturers (with a specialty in one or more manufacturers)
  • Assists customers in the collection, cleanse/normalization, and management of software discovery and inventory information.
  • Participates in customer communications across the entire life-cycle of a SAM project. This includes producing and presenting intermediate, analytical, and final results and assuring projects are conducted and closed to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Collects and manages SAM-related information from PCM, customers, and software manufacturers
  • Ensures all SAM projects are conducted professionally, ethically, and in a manner consistent with SHI quality standards

 


Qualifications

Ideally the successful candidate will hold some or all of the following accreditations. If the accreditations are not currently held the successful candidate may be required to study and pass the following Microsoft accreditations within a short period of commencing the role.

  • Exam 70-673: TS: Designing, Assessing, and Optimizing Software Asset Management (SAM)
  • Exam 70-672: Designing and Providing Microsoft Volume Licensing Solutions to Large Organizations
  • Exam 70-671: Designing and Providing Microsoft Volume Licensing Solutions to Small and Medium Organizations
  • Exam 70-243: Administering and Deploying System Center 2012 Configuration Manager or Exam 70-401: TS: Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007, Configuring or Exam 70-247: Configuring and Deploying a Private Cloud with System Center 2012 In addition to the accreditations listed above, SHI are seeking a well-rounded experienced SAM specialist and therefore we welcome all other relevant skills and experience.

Skills:

 

 

  • Experience with software installation and software inventory systems
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining a SNOW environment
  • Ability to stay self-motivated and self-directed
