Summary:

The Development Writer is part of the team that works closely with Development Services Officers to support front-line fundraisers. The Development Writer must have an informed and sophisticated writing style, excellent interpersonal skills, high energy and self-motivation. Essential to success in this role is the ability to be hands-on, to prioritize evolving workloads, to cultivate deep knowledge of hospital programs and draw on a broad range of productive relationships with key hospital and Foundation professionals to assimilate complex information into compelling storytelling for public audiences, major gift prospects and grant-making organizations.

Essential duties:
  • Work both individually and in a team environment to produce materials that inspire donors and enable fundraising success. Generate successful major gift and grant proposals, engaging stewardship and impact reports, and compelling case for support material in various media.

  • Work closely with the assigned Development Services Officer (DSO), and under the supervision of the Director of Development Services, to plan and develop a variety of materials, from of routine correspondence to targeted case summaries that support front-line fundraisers who are identifying, engaging, cultivating and soliciting donor prospects. Create correspondence and expository materials related to the cause and/or case, major gift proposals and other materials that otherwise would take work time away from primary donor-facing activities if produced by front-line fundraisers. Examples include:
    • Create and continuously improve standardized templates for all fundraising proposals,
    • Prepare - at appropriate levels of detail and customization - proposals, gift agreements and related materials for individually solicited annual, middle, major and principle gifts.
    • Prepare proposals and related materials for sponsorship solicitations and corporate gifts
    • Provide writing support for requests to major donors and individuals, including contribution letters and acknowledgements and stewardship reports
    • Research for grant applications and case development

  • Serve as a project coordinator, editor, and/or principal writer, and collaborate with other members of the Foundation team to create written materials, video scripts, presentations, message summaries, talking points, briefings and other materials that support fundraising.

  • Support the Foundation's communication function when directed by writing or ghostwriting announcements, articles, feature stories, and such materials for internal or external media and editing materials written by others.

    Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required. Demonstrated proficiency in critical thinking, writing, editing and basic graphic design. 3-5 years or relevant experience strongly preferred.


Computer Skills
  • Excellent skills in Word, PowerPoint and other relevant applications
