Summary
Assess, initiate, monitor, manage, teach, and carry out care for ventilation of breathing and non-breathing patients including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients on all general floors, ICU's, and the Emergency Department.
Duties:
Prepare, operate, and troubleshoot all mechanical ventilators, adult and neonatal, invasive and non-invasive. Determine, evaluate, and modify the most appropriate mode of ventilation in accordance with departmental policies and established protocols.
Initiates neonatal equipment and attends high risk deliveries in the LDRP.
Assesses critical patients and makes appropriate recommendations for care.
Manages and places advanced airways throughout the hospital.
Participates in advanced practices, such as bronchoscopy and arterial line placement.
Collect clinical data including respiratory parameters, arterial blood gases, and pulse oximetry readings.

Upon obtaining the NBRC credential (date printed on the certificate) the employee has three (3) months (90 days) to obtain an Illinois State License as issued by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Failure to obtain such license will result in termination of employment at the end of the "grace period".
The employee is responsible to maintain his/her State License in an active/current status while employed with The Medical Center. Failure to do to so will result in suspension without pay until obtained and/or termination.
Education and/or Experience
Knowledge, skill, and mental development associated with completion of an Associate's Degree in Applied Science. Graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Care.
Computer Skills
Knowledge of Meditech and Microsoft Office
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Registered by National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or registry eligible with completion within 3 months (90 days), Illinois licensure. CPR, ACLS, and NRP required. PALS preferred.
