SUMMARY

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs nuclear imaging procedures and administration of radiopharmaceuticals while under the general supervision of a practitioner who is licensed, as required, to possess and use radioactive materials, for the purposes of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders at a technical level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs all nuclear imaging procedures and verification/administration of radiopharmaceuticals, with appropriate application of technical and positioning protocols, safety procedures, radiation protection and proper image identifying criteria according to department policy and procedure.

  • Verifies physician orders for instructions from requesting physician and consults with the radiologists. Explains procedure and provides education as appropriate. Prepares the patient for the examination per department protocols to include pre-exam preparation, patient history and documentation, and physician order verification.

  • Performs equipment warm up, calibration and safety check. Operates hospital computer system. Reports to supervisor any equipment malfunctions. Operates/prepares equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines for appropriate quality control.

    Education and/or Experience

    Graduate of an approved program in nuclear medicine technology.

    Two years of experience preferred.

    Computer Skills

    Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) License in Nuclear Medicine Technology required. Registration in Nuclear Medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART) and/or Certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) required. CPR certification required.
