SUMMARY

Installs repairs and replaces pipes, fittings and plumbing fixtures to maintain heating, water, gas and drainage systems throughout facilities. Also expected to perform routine repairs other than plumbing to the building facilities and equipment when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Completes daily work order assignments and assists outside service repair companies and vendors, ensuring completion of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Supports other facilities trades as necessary.

2. Reviews facilities operational policies and procedures and ensures departmental compliance. Participates in monthly department meetings to communicate new or revised policies and or operational issues/updates.

3. Provides input for the department's corrective and preventive maintenance program with regard to new equipment acquisitions, alterations or retirement. Reviews manuals and journals to maintain technical competency on all equipment.

4. Conducts regularly scheduled rounds of all facility areas. Reporting necessary repairs, safety or code related observations.

5. Responds to service requests and emergency repairs during assigned shifts. Checks equipment, assesses the extent of the problem and makes necessary repairs, or contacts appropriate resources for emergency repairs or alternative plans.

6. Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures/equipment as required.

7. Repairs or replaces malfunctioning plumbing fixtures.

8. Prepares pipe and plumbing fixtures for installation, replacement or repair by threading, measuring and shaping.

9. Performs tasks to prepare work area by disassembling old systems and cutting holes in walls and floors for pipes to pass.

10. Maintains adequate inventory of plumbing supplies, tools and parts.

Requisitions/orders materials and equipment necessary to perform work.

11. Functions as a member of the hospital's Code Response team as needed. Attains certification for level IS-100 National Incident Management System.(NIMS) within 90 days of hire.

12. Functions as a member of the facility's snow removal team.

Education and/or Experience

1-3 years experience required

High School diploma or equivalent

Plumbing - Journeyman Status

Computer Skills

Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.

Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
