General Summary

The Account Technician performs all accounting and financial-related functions for the ATC’s residents’ accounts in a timely and accurate manner in accordance to generally accepted accounting principles as well as fiscal directive and set mandates by the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC), as well as providing back-up to the security, program, and administrative staff functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately inputs financial data onto individual residents` accounts
  • Reconciles individual trust accounts in preparation for close-out due to parole or revocation
  • Prepares monies received for bank deposits daily; clearly and concisely presents the "financial management class" to new residents at the ATC
  • Processes check requests in accordance with approved accounting procedures
  • Prepares and distributes daily, weekly & monthly error-free financial reports
  • Participates in the internal and external fiscal auditing process by keeping abreast of current IDOC fiscal directives.
  • Provides back-up to the security, program, and administrative staff functions, as needed

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of financial systems and computerized accounting software packages (i.e., Microix and MIPS/Abilia)
  • Successful experience in financial close cycle responsibilities as it relates to Accounts Payable processing as well as trial balances.
  • Detail and accuracy orientation including well-developed organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task in a high-volume, fast-paced environment in order to accomplish deadlines while ensuring compliance
  • Highly motivated self-starter who is goal-oriented, resourceful and outcome driven
  • Individual has a customer-centered work style: approachable and engaging
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish), a strong plus

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent, a plus.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ of successful work experience in accounts payables and receivables.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Previous work and/or volunteer experience working with the formerly incarcerated and the economically disadvantaged preferred
