General Summary

The Intake Specialist portion of this position is responsible for client orientation and intake assessment and providing appropriate internal and external referrals as the Intake Specialist. The Housing Coordinator portion of this position is responsible for providing case management and programming for the clients residing in Safer’s Focus Housing apartments.   

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Intake Specialist

·         Provides thorough orientation to the expectations, services and regulations of the Safer Foundation, and to the client’s rights and responsibilities.

·         Assesses each client using established best practice tools and techniques including administering various readiness level testing instruments.

·         Refers clients to services via the various pathways of Safer’s Retention Services process by analyzing information from test scores and assessment results.

·         Tactfully and discreetly informs clients when assessment results indicate that the client is not prepared to receive the services Safer offers. Refer to other agencies as appropriate.

·         Documents all client interactions in Safer’s (Axiom) database accurately and in a timely manner.

 

Housing Coordinator

  • Maintains a housing support system and case management for the 10 clients living in Safer’s Focus Housing who meet base line requirements for housing assistance.  The supports include  (1) requirements to meet assistance; (2) a system of service delivery; (3)   ensuring protocols for the case management of housing needs, include Safer sponsored housing, long term planning, credit repair, home buying, financial management .
  • Delivers all tenant-focused life skills workshops including all financial planning workshops and access to appropriate financial support programs.
  • Maintains relationships with housing funders and completes all required paperwork that clearly demonstrates the delivery of all required outcomes.  Outcomes include:  remediation of substance abuse and other employment challenges, employment, training, and, ultimately, self-sufficiency.
  • Conducts weekly on-site home visits and interacts with housing provider.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics and societal trends and influences.
  • Goal-oriented self-starter with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a variety of audience, i.e., clients, peers, and supervisors.

 

Education and Experience:

  • AA in a related discipline (counseling, psychology, criminal justice).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ successful experience working with people with criminal records and knowledge of employment barriers faced and how to remediate them.
