JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Mentoring Program Manager will provide management and oversight for overall programmatic activities and day to day management of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Second Chance Act Mentoring Program and work closely with internal and external partners to ensure quality program outcomes in the areas of case management, work readiness, training, job placement and follow-up services. Ensures that all programmatic and administrative responsibilities meet or exceed all Safer’s standards.

 

  • Collaborate with partner agencies to provide comprehensive intensive mentoring services that support and meet the contractual obligations of the overall training and job placement program.
  • Through job readiness training, provide a wide variety of group and individual skill-building services in order to prepare participants for entering the workplace and retaining work skills.
  • All participants have fully executed and successfully completed all the required training hours to complete the program and to secure job placement.
  • Collaborate with all partners to ensure that a comprehensive participant recruitment and selection process is implemented to ensure appropriate participant alignment and match, based on program and contractual requirements.
  • Manage the proper implementation of our internal database tracking system and create all required reports and maintain audit ready records.
  • There is timely, documented and consistent follow-up and tracking of interventions and services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years supervisory experience
  • Two years teaching, facilitation or coaching/mentoring experience
  • Experience in start-up programs
  • Program design and planning skills.
  • Knowledge of the specific barriers that people with a criminal records face regarding academic development
  • Knowledge of learning styles and how to help overcome barriers to successful learning
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics and societal trends and influences
  • Knowledge of computer-based applications such as Microsoft Word, Axiom
  • Skilled in writing accurate and detailed case notes
  • Skilled in active listening and conveying information to others effectively
  • Skilled in Critical Thinking, judgment and decision-making

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline or equivalent work experience
