SUMMARY
Oversee strategic and operational programs and projects development, implementation and ongoing support for surgical and procedural services. Provide non-clinical leadership/guidance in support of all Perioperative Services. Manage revenue enhancement, logistics analysis and process improvement for all assigned areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide strategic oversight of administrative/business functions (i.e. scheduling, throughput, Revenue Cycle, etc.) for all assigned areas. Collaborate with staff to ensure data regarding surgery indicators is gathered as necessary. Create a dashboard with surgery indicators and present to executive management, clinical chairpersons, nursing management, and other strategic analysts to assist in decision making purposes regarding the advancement of strategic and operational interests related to the needs of areas of responsibility.
  • Review and analyze revenue/financial forecasting of Perioperative Services to ensure compliance with payer reimbursement policies by creating, developing, and implementing modifications in order to accommodate changes such as updates to the system, addition of new supplies to the charge master inventory, etc. Develop, implement and maintain long and short-term goals and objectives for assigned areas in collaboration with nursing and executive leadership.
  • Coordinate program/project schedules, resource assignments/allocations, budgets and financial forecasts, and oversee the Electronic Medical Record (ORM) and information system to ensure they are maintained and up-to-date. Prepare annual departmental budgets, and review fee schedules and competitive pricing of service areas to identify and address any issues. Provide education and management consulting to managers/staff on the use and interpretation of analyses reports, methodologies and source data to optimize understanding and/or use of data.
  • Oversee process improvements that increase efficiency of Perioperative Services by developing, implementing and leading internal departmental operations such as supply utilization, logistics, labor utilization and patient flow. Develop benchmarks and standards by which operational goals will be assessed and maintained. Prepare statistical reports relative to Perioperative case volume, case duration, and utilization of each clinical area. Present findings and recommendations to the Perioperative Operations Committee.
  • Maintain working knowledge of The Joint Commission, CMS/IDPH and other regulatory requirements relevant to assigned areas and apply this knowledge when assisting in the preparation for accreditation and/or certification surveys in these areas of responsibility.

  • Proven experience growing a surgical services product line.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with a customer focus
  • Ability to work with physicians to develop detailed project plans
  • Analytical skills necessary to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data
  • Supervisory experience preferred with a high level of team skills necessary for planning, organizing, problem solving and decision-making
  • Thorough knowledge of surgical services, purchasing, inventory, distribution and basic accounting/finance theories and applications
  • Understanding of clinical practices as they relate to surgical services with the ability to articulate necessary information to both physicians and staff
  • Working knowledge of Lean methodology and principles

    Education and/or Experience
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Hospital/Administration or other related field
  • 5 years of experience in Healthcare, including Surgical Services with progressive supervisory/management responsibilities

    Computer Skills
  • Expert use of MS Office Suite software programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Visio
  • Experience with Project Management Software

    PREFERRED:
  • Knowledge of Meditech and/or other Materials Management systems
