SUMMARY

Identifies all patients diagnosed and treated for cancer with ICD-0, ACoS, IDPH/ISCR, and AJCC requirements. Under direction of the Director of Oncology, maintains operation of Cancer Registry functions per guidelines of the American College of Surgeons and the recommendations of the Cancer Committee. Retrieves and disseminates cancer data; assists with Patient Care Evaluation studies. Complies with IDPH/ISCR requests for cancer patient data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Assists with the preparation of Cancer Conference under the direction of the Nurse Navigator.
    • Assists with completion of Cancer Conference grid under the direction of the Nurse Navigator
    • Enters date of Cancer Conference in each patients' suspense file in the Cancer Registry software
    • Completes weekly analysis of all pathology reports and based on the final diagnosis determines eligibility for case reporting using the Illinois State Cancer Registry (ISCR) and Commission on Cancer (CoC) guidelines
    • Completes monthly analysis of ICD-9 disease index and determines eligibility for case reporting using the ISCR and CoC guidelines
    • Adds all reportable cases in the suspense file in the Cancer Registry software
    • Runs monthly follow up lists from the Cancer Registry software
    • Obtains current follow up on all patients on an annual basis. Follow up is obtained from the Electronic Health Record (EHR), physician offices (via letter or phone call), other hospitals (via letter or phone call), and patients (via letter)
    • Input follow up information into the completed abstract in the Cancer Registry software
    • Runs annual "lost to follow up" report and repeats monthly process to obtain current follow up.
    • Under the direction of the Cancer Registry Coordinator, obtain necessary treatment to complete abstracts. Treatment can be obtained by calling physicians and/or other hospital cancer registries.
    • Assists in the preparation of quarterly Cancer Committee meetings.
    • Assists with preparation of physician review of abstracts

    Education and/or Experience

    High School diploma or above

    Knowledge of ACoS Standards and ISCR guidelines preferred

    Knowledge of ICD-O (International Classification of Disease for Oncology); AJCC (American Joint Committee on Cancer) and Collaborative staging preferred

    Computer Skills

    Basic skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook
