What You Will Do

Job Summary:

The Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Physician Enterprise will have accountability for financial oversight of AMITA Health Medical Group (AHMG). The CFO Physician Enterprise, in partnership with the AHMG Chief Executive, will be responsible for financial performance within AHMG, with a focus on strategy, analytics, financial and operational performance, integration savings and improvement initiatives. Reports directly to the AMITA Health Medical Group CEO with dotted line accountability to the AMITA Health Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities:
  1. Financial performance analysis of all ministries within AHMG, including holding ministry leadership accountable for their specific performance relating to budgets & other specific goals and benchmarks.
    • Lead and oversee all financial integration activities for mergers, as well as for medical practice acquisitions.
    • Collaborate with the AMITA Health Medical Group CEO and all of the Care Delivery CEOs and CFOs on all financial issues, supporting them as necessary in the management of their respective Care Delivery business unit. Take leadership role and ensure impact of Physician Enterprise initiatives on hospital operations is appropriately communicated and accounted for.
      • In collaboration with Revenue Cycle leader for AMITA Health, oversee Revenue Cycle function for Physician Enterprise and ensure targets are met and function performs efficiently and effectively.
      • Oversight of preparation of pro formas for new physician hires and strategic initiatives
      • Collaboration with Decision Support to determine ROI on proposed initiatives and hires
      • Monitoring of performance against pro formas, and ensuring action planning if investments underperform
      • Review contribution margin of the medical group, by physician and by market, at least biennially, and make recommendations to the CEO as appropriate relative to underperforming investments
      • Oversight of preparation of mid-month projections and month- and year-end financial statements
      • Lead and oversee the budget development process,
      • Working with medical group CEO and Executive Leaders, develop and distribute, on a regular basis, dashboards for key financial and revenue cycle metrics and initiatives
      • Guide and monitor progress on all initiatives for performance improvement within AHMG including:
        • achievement of integration savings targets.
        • achievement of anticipated pro formas and ROIs
      • Develop and implement pricing strategies for the medical group to ensure
        • Revenue maximization
        • Consumer transparency
        • Competitive pricing
        • Consistency with CIN/payer contracting strategies
      • Collaborate with Care Delivery ministry leadership to develop and implement strategies for revenue growth and expense control.
        • Oversight of preparation of pro formas for new physician hires and strategic initiatives
        • Collaboration with Decision Support to determine ROI on proposed initiatives and hires
        • Monitoring of performance against pro formas, and ensuring action planning if investments underperform

      • Lead and oversee all financial integration activities for mergers, as well as for medical practice acquisitions.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Support/Partner with the AMITA Health SVP of Budget and Decision Support in development of annual operating and capital budgets for AHMG within the Care Delivery division, as well as hold ministry leadership accountable for achieving the budgets and related productivity targets.
      • Develop a budget calendar and coordinate medical group deliverables and deadlines with key operational and executive stakeholders
      • Ensure accurate and timely compilation of all departmental budgets from all appropriate hospital, service line and medical group leaders
      • Ensure appropriate coordination of related downstream budgets with hospitals and service line leaders
    • Oversee VP Financial Operations in evaluating and analyzing existing service lines, as well as new business opportunities for AHMG.
    • Support the AHMG Vice President, Financial Operations during the monthly close process. Work with Controller to review and understand financial statements issued, be prepared to discuss variances from budget with senior management at AMITA and AHMG. Ensure and monitor action planning for material adverse variances. Make recommendations to the CEO as appropriate.
    • Participate in performance improvement, team development, and associate and provider engagement activities and programs as appropriate.
    • Serve as a member of the Medical Group's executive team, and participate on Medical Group Committees and Councils as assigned. Co-Chair the Finance Committee of the AMITA Health Medical Group System Operations Council.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's Level Degree
    • Bachelor's degree required
    • Master's degree preferred

Work Experience:
  • Ten years of experience in a financial leadership role, with five years or more in the role of CFO within a large, multi-specialty medical group as part of a health system. Experience with mergers/acquisitions as it relates to physician practices
