Summary/Objective:
The Accountant/Analyst is responsible for ensuring the proper accounting and reporting of our restricted assets/grants, investments, and cash position. The position will also be responsible for maintaining our budget and forecast system, chart of accounts, leading and or assisting in the preparation of our financial statements, functional expense accounting, inventory accounting, statutory reporting including our annual 990, state government reporting, and other tasks as assigned. The position will require an individual with a strong skill set in US Generally Accepted accounting principles, not for profit accounting, internal control, reporting and analysis. The individual will be required to have strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, and have a bias towards continuous improvement and the ability to work successfully in a not-for-profit environment.
Essential Functions ( including but not limited to):
- Grant accounting and reporting on a monthly and annual basis. This includes monthly usage and release accounting entries, review and monitoring of activity, update of grant master data in our ERP, and working with key stakeholders on grant status and usage.
- Manage the general ledger including, monthly accounting entries, account reconciliations and accruals.
- Functional expense accounting and reporting.
- Lead and/or assist with all aspects of the monthly and year-end financial close and annual audit.
- Assist the VP of Finance with monthly financial statement preparation, including creating and maintaining the monthly financials and dashboards and assisting in the analysis of financial information
- Support and/or conduct the monthly review of department expense variance analysis
- Prepare annual audit-format financial statements, Statement of Federal Expenditures and 990 reporting package. Prepare information for annual letter to agencies of federal awards.
- Support and or deliver the annual valuation of inventory, and audit support.
- Complete monthly bank, investment and 401k reconciliations; and other reconciliations as required by VP of Finance
- Petty Cash controls and reconciliation
- Assist VP of Finance with ad hoc requests, and ensuring strong internal controls support the various accounting processes
- Maintain our budget software, including updates for actuals, budgets, targets, forecasts
- Support budget process by preparing or supporting the creation of budget financial statements, coordinating the delivery of the department budget statements and food receipts and distributions, preparing balance sheet budget and uploading final budget to general ledger
- Support the bi-monthly payroll process, as required.
- Work with other finance team members to cross train on finance activities and processes
- Maintain, create financial process documentation.
- Perform other duties as required
Skills, Education, & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. CPA preferred.
Five to Eight years of experience in financial accounting, reporting, analysis and controls, with at least two to three years in an accounting analyst role.
Demonstrated experience in non-profit accounting is strongly desired with knowledge of the unique requirements in non-profit accounting (particularly GAAP, grant and restricted funds accounting and reporting, A-133 reporting, and internal controls)
Technologically savvy. Advanced Excel Skills and proficiency in Microsoft office. Candidates will be required to take an advanced Excel Skills test.
Excellent analytical skills and advanced skills in turning data into relevant and useful information based on understanding of the organization and its operations.

Proven and effective skills in team work, working cross-functionally and with different levels in the organization.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machine.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and position self on a stool as necessary.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.
