Employment Specialist

WORK DESCRIPTION:    

Responsible for assessment, goal-setting, resource identification, linking, advocacy, intra and inter agency coordination.  Caseload consists of adult women and children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct job readiness workshops, train participants on job search and interviewing skills, assist in developing resumes and cover letters.
  • Create individualized employment plans for job-seekers that emphasize career goals and long and short-term career planning as well necessary education, training, and support services.
  • Provide on-going career-support counseling to participants to overcome significant barriers to employment.
  • Identify and assist with supportive service needs.
  • Enter participant data, activities, outcomes, and case notes into Care Logic and other tracking systems in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist Business Service Representative in the facilitation of individual job-search and identify appropriate career opportunities.
  • Maintain post-placement contact with clients and provide job-retention support with an emphasis on career advancement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and work experience in field required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in workforce development, counseling, social work or related field
  • Knowledge in substance abuse or related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and workshop facilitation skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Resourceful, team-oriented, flexible, outcome-oriented, creative, self-starter
  • Ability to work with participants facing multiple barriers to employment
  • Computer literate and familiarity with customer tracking systems
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus
  • Able to work effectively on a team
