Assistant Manager, Digital Marketing

The Assistant Manager, Digital Marketing contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society ("CZS") and its financial sustainability by raising awareness and helping to generate increased attendance. This is accomplished through the development and execution of an effective social media plan specifically tailored for each platform, and through online marketing programs, including website and other online channels.

The successful candidate:
  • Supports Digital Marketing Manager in managing online marketing programs, including CZS Website and social media activities.
  • Responsible for creating new ways to engage social media community via contests, video, promotions, etc.
  • Responds to Facebook messages in a timely and professional manner. Must be available to check social media
    platforms after work hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Develops social media plan for all platforms; including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. Creates social media calendar to meet the needs of the institution.
  • Works with other departments such as (but not limited to) Animal Programs and Conservation, Education and Training to create marketing plans and materials, including coupon programs, information packages, blogging calendar and digital school newsletter program and events. Develops communication and promotion plans and strategies and executes finished plans.
  • Supports internal communications such as The Bridge and BZ Communications as needed. Ensures late edits and photo revisions are made prior to sending messages out to external customers (members, non-members, teachers, etc.), as needed. Identifies and collaborates with internal experts and external advocates to develop content that tells the CZS story within the context of the CZS mission. Attends meetings for online projects (Web/Social Media/Marketing email), with Membership, Development, Animal Programs, Catered Events, Conservation, Education and Training and Marketing Events as needed. Attends Public Relations status meetings and other meetings as requested or needed. Edits and revises communications to ensure clarity of expression, editorial consistency, and consistency of messages substance, style, coherency, accuracy, grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Position Requirements and Specifications
The requirements for this position:
  • High school diploma or (GED) equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or other related field, and three (3) years of equivalent experience required.
  • Strong communications and creative writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills required. Knowledge of a variety of software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a warm, amiable personality. Ability to interact well and maintain positive relationships with internal departments, outside vendors, suppliers, media, and others.
  • Incumbent must be persistent, helpful, and able to deal with multiple issues at one time.
  • Solid analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Incumbent must be self-motivated, flexible, and confident, possess a high level of energy, and enjoy working in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.
  • A valid driver's license is required on date of hire. If you are an Illinois resident, you must possess a valid Illinois driver's license at the time of hire or must obtain one within 90 days of hire. A valid out-of-state driver's license is required at time of hire if the employee is an out-of-state resident.
The preferred qualifications:
  • Photoshop and Website content management (CMS) software skills preferred.
  • Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.
