MAINTENANCE FACILITIES – NORTHERN ILLINOIS FOOD BANK – Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this role is to provide the leadership necessary to support our main Center in Geneva where this position is based, in addition to Park City (Lake County), Rockford and eventually Joliet, managing the relationships and processes that ensure the efficient and effective operation of each warehouse and Office environment.  Furthermore he/she will ensure that equipment operation supporting Building, Center, Utilities, Manufacturing and Quality Control (QC) meets regulatory requirements through good Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) practices, design, and execution, with the goal of minimal operation interruptions to those we serve. This role also requires someone who is knowledgeable, experienced in equipment maintenance repairs, thereby being willing and able to "roll up their sleeves" and make repairs as needed.  

The Director of Warehouse Operations and Director of Transportation also play key roles in the development and implementation of the distribution center operation’s strategic vision.  The Center maintenance person will lead or assist in new equipment purchases; installation, project management, and qualification and be responsible for the Food Bank’s Capital Expense and facilities related budgets.

This position will maintain the highest standards with respect to the appearance and functionality of all buildings and the health and safety of employees as it relates to the day to day operation of the Center.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure efficient & Effective Operation of Center

  • Ensure processes and procedures meet all federal, state and local regulatory requirements and good documentation practices are followed to track all work activities providing efficient data analysis supporting Center Operations and Maintenance  
  • Partners with HR and VP of Operations in developing and implementing evacuation and safety guidelines and programs.
  • Develops, implements and monitors recycling and energy saving programs
  • Serve on Safety Committee 
  • Drive consistency across Center Operations to ensure processes and department priorities are aligned
  • Source and evaluate competitive service contracts for suppliers of key Center operations goods and services. Ensure most cost effective solutions obtained.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators and monitor these metrics.
  • Coordinates, oversees and/or manages repair and maintenance work assignments performed by technicians, vendors and contractors performing building maintenance, landscaping and janitorial work.

Ensure Regulatory and Organizational Compliance (SOPs affecting Center Operations). 

  • Centers operate in compliance with all federal, state and local Acts, standards, codes, regulations ( Food Safety)
  • Lead the Center operation & maintenance self-inspections, Feeding America and related external audits
  • Initiate change controls supporting Center Operations and maintain all site certifications
  • Ensure all equipment conforms to government safety standards

 Preventative Maintenance System

  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance (PM) strategy that will ensure minimal unscheduled down-time
  • Maintain uninterrupted operation of physical Centers and utilities equipment supporting the Food Bank through completion of scheduled and unscheduled work orders in a timely manner. 
  • Propose, evaluate and implement continuous improvement projects.

Maintenance of the appearance and functionality of the building and grounds

  • Maintain current high standards with respect to condition and appearance of all Centers and grounds for both summer and winter seasons supporting the GMP environment.
  • Establish standard operating procedures for janitorial, custodial, and other facility related areas
  • Ensure Center drawings are updated and current at all times and meet GMP requirements.
  • Accountable for Center Operation budget
  • Develop, submit and manage expense & capital budget recommendations within established time frames and limits.
  • Negotiates with contractors, suppliers and partners with the management team to insure that best workmanship, cost savings and facility services are provided to the Food Bank
    • Review, develop, and manage Vendor Service Agreements providing cost effectiveness and maintenance synergizes.

Project Management 

  • In collaboration with Vice President of Operations, develop and executive cost effective project management, from design stage through to successful completion.
  • Assist with perspective build out and design of South Suburban Distribution Center

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Science, Business, and\or Engineering) or equivalent
  • 5-7 years of previous experience required ( Temperature controlled)
  • Knowledge of maintenance equipment and systems (HVAC, Electrical & Plumbing, Refrigeration- access control and alarm systems)
  • Good knowledge of the regulatory requirements supporting both the facilities operation and manufacturing, distribution environments
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel across service area; less than 25%
  • Good mechanical aptitude – Providing analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Engineering, Construction, and Project Management
  • Proven, strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and other engineering drawings supporting building, Center, and utilities
  • Fully competent in Microsoft Office suite of software in addition to maintenance software and operating systems
