Senior Community Program Assistant (Seasonal)

The Senior Community Program Assistant contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by serving as an important rung of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics ("STEM") Ladder program which creates opportunities to inspire conservation leadership in diverse youth. The Senior Community Program Assistant provides supervision for King Conservation Science Scholars and Community Program Assistants, assists in the enforcement of program rules, maintains quality of zoo interpretation and assists with other STEM Ladder programs as needed.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide supervision for Community Program Assistants and King Conservation Science Scholars on-site at the zoo and on field trips. Assist in the enforcement of program rules and ensures quality of tasks completed.
- Develop scheduling for King Conservation Science Scholars and Community Program Assistants on a daily basis.
- Ensure effective communication between King Conservation Science Scholars, outreach staff, and Conservation Leadership Program Supervisor.
- Assist in maintaining quality of King Conservation Science Scholars interpretation.
- Assist in developing and conducting training and team-building programming for Community Program Assistants and King Conservation Science Scholars.
- Assist with other STEM Ladder and community outreach programs on-site at the zoo and off-site.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements and Specifications
The requirements for this position include the following:
- Minimum one year of college or equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Ability to take initiative to ensure task completion without close supervision required.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.
- A valid driver's license is required on date of hire. If you are an Illinois resident, you must possess a valid Illinois driver's license at the time of hire or must obtain one within 90 days of hire. A valid out-of-state driver's license is required at time of hire if the employee is an out-of-state resident.
- Two years within the King Conservation Science Scholars at Brookfield Zoo or two years of experience working directly with teens in volunteer or mentorship settings desired.
- Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.
