As a Banquet Server in Catered Events, you may become part of this world-class catering and culinary team .

The starting wage for this position is $12.25 per hour.

The Banquet Server position contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by providing an extraordinary guest experience through the execution of Catered Events functions. Acts as server at food and beverage functions held at the zoo. Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean work environment, and meeting Health Department regulations.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the position include :

• Follows directions of the captain to achieve department and Society goals.
• Serves food and beverages in the style and method specified by standard operating procedures.
• Assists in setting up the dining, reception and staging areas for scheduled events as designated in the Banquet Event Order (BEO).
• Organizes bussing station and prepares coffee service, champagne, buffet, and bread baskets.
• Follows safe food handling procedures in accordance with established food service sanitation practices.
• Attends role call in completed uniform prior to start of event.
• Stores all dishes, silverware, and glassware in proper area after they are washed.
• Works as a team with other servers and captains to clean up and breakdown all utilized areas.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements and Specifications
The requirements for this position include the following:

• High School graduate or equivalent combination of training/experience preferred.


• Must be at least 18 years of age.


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.


• Must be detail oriented, organized and able to maintain a high level of accuracy.


• Outstanding customer service orientation required.


• Ability to maintain customer satisfaction under pressure and meet deadlines.


• Must be able to work with little supervision and complete and follow through on tasks independently.


• Spanish fluency a plus, but not required.
  
  

Additional Information: This seasonal position requires a flexible, creative person who is able to work weekends and evenings as required. Catered Events employees may be scheduled to work a morning, afternoon or evening function. Employees are scheduled to start as early as 6:30 a.m. and work as late as 2:00 a.m. Catered Events employees may be required to work a 10-hour day or longer.

As Brookfield Zoo is open 365 days a year and events are scheduled during mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekends, the Banquet Server position requires flexible availability to work non-standard hours.
