JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:                          Co-Dispatcher & Special Education Liaison

 

REPORTS TO:                     Director of Transportation

WORK YEAR:                     12 Month – Full Time

                                              7:30 am - 4:30 pm

 

REQUIREMENTS:             High School Diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 1-3 years clerical/administrative experience. Previous transportation experience a plus. Computer proficiency. Versatrans Routing a plus. Exceptional attendance and punctuality. Flexibility a must. Knowledge of the district geographic area preferred. Position  requires a high degree of confidentiality as well as strong oral and written communication skills. Must be able to work effectively with administration, bus drivers, parents, teaching staff, students and community members. Supportive of District #95 Strategic Plan and Core Values. Supportive of District #95 policies and practices. Spanish or Polish speaking a plus. 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Act as the primary communication liaison between the Student Services and Transportation departments in fulfilling the requirements set forth in a student’s IEP relating to transportation. Responsible for problem solving and documenting steps taken to begin, change or end transportation functions.

  2. Schedules and assigns transportation for all students in and out of the District.

  3. Prepare, evaluate and modify bus routes.Advise affected drivers, supervisors, school personnel and parents of schedule and/or route modifications.

  4. Support the dispatching functions for District 95 routes.

  5. Assists in planning, organizing, scheduling and participating in safety meetings.

  6. Provide functions including responding to all dispatch messages via radio during bus routes, including check-in and check-out of drivers, emergency substitute bus drivers, notification to administration, schools and parents of sick or injured students. Notification to administration, schools, and police in emergencies or accidents. Communication with schools and parents if routes are late or if are not met at bus stop by parent when required.

  7. Responsible for maintaining the Special Education route sheets and sub books.

  8. Maintain student records regarding special needs information, new students, dropped students and sitter/daycare information in Versatrans, route books and sub books. Communicate all information to drivers at both North and South offices.

  9. Assists in assigning special transportation arrangements for Special Education students.

  10. Assist Director of Transportation with Special Education data required to complete State Transportation Claim each year.

  11. Enter all medical data into Versatrans for all D95 students and ensure this information is included on route sheets and sub books.

  12. Assist Director in creating new Special Education routes for beginning of school year and summer school.

  13. Perform other duties as may be necessary and assigned by the Director of Transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to actively perform work in classroom, office, and other business and community settings.  Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting).  Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting.  Exposure to weather conditions.  Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Newly hired employees will be placed on the ESP Salary Scale based on prior work experience that can be verified, that is recent (within the last ten years without an extended break in employment), and in a position of similar responsibilities.  Benefits as determined and approved annually by the Board of Education.
