PPG is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic for its growing coatings plant located in Chicago, IL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain machines, equipment and keep the physical plant and its components in proper working order.

  • Maintain dock safety equipment, stretch wrap machine, pumps, boilers, compressors and air conditioning system in proper working condition and follow scheduled PM’s.

  • Utilize testing equipment, power and hand tools to perform various types of work.

  • General duties may include welding, pipefitting, carpentry and electrical work.

  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications following building and underwriters codes.

  • Operate a fork truck to move equipment as required.

  • Work safely in environments that involve elevated work, machine lock out and other risk prevention best practices.

  • Ability to work 1st shift and willing to work overtime, including weekend, as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED.

  • Two (2) years industrial mechanical experience required.

  • Journeyman certification desired.

  • Mechanical and technical aptitude required.

  • Experience in industrial electrical systems, HVAC, welding and control systems preferred.

  • HVAC license, welding certificate, or electrical license preferred.

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more depending upon the job.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal customers and can work successfully on a team.
