Corporate Safety Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for developing, implementing, communicating, supporting and maintaining the organization’s occupational safety and loss control programs.  Work with facility safety staff to provide timely and accurate guidance to resolve issues.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review safety policies and procedures on a routine and as needed basis to assure that the company continues to meet required federal, state, and local standards and regulations. 
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate costs related to the use of external training resources (i.e., Powered Industrial Equipment, Blood-borne Pathogens, HAZMAT, First Aid, CPR) and propose alternative solutions to management; implementing as approved. 
  • Provide consultation and training to site safety staff in safety areas including, but not limited to, site security procedures, incident investigations, self-assessments, and internal and external audit preparation. 
  • Provide assistance and guidance to site safety staff in preparation for, and completion of, internal self-assessments and third party audits. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain Job Safety Analysis (JSA) programs for use in identifying possible safety hazards and developing effective safety guidelines, developing training programs, guiding incident investigations, evaluating ergonomics, and identifying cost savings opportunities. 
  • Conduct the Corporate Compliance Program Safety Assessment audits for all facilities on an as-needed basis and depending upon audit results. 
  • Review accuracy of OSHA 300 log for all facilities. 
  • Represent company during federal, state and local safety inspections for OSI facilities, as needed. 
  • Promote safety awareness throughout all facilities by using established programs in behavioral safety, hazard recognition and accountability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental science, or related disciplines or equivalent subject matter knowledge skills and abilities acquired through work.
  • 0 to 3 years of experience working in a similar role in a manufacturing environment so as to be familiar with manufacturing equipment, environment and procedures.
  • Knowledge of governmental safety compliance regulations and their influence on manufacturing operations and policies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both individually and in group settings, with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to resolve problems regarding policies, procedures and safety programs. Must have interpersonal skills to influence participants and decision-makers.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of time.
