General Summary:

The Benefits Administrator is responsible for administering various employee benefit programs, such as FMLA, workers compensation, unemployment insurance and group life, medical, dental, disability and retirement programs.  The Benefits Administrator is also responsible for the maintenance of employee records and related procedures and processes for all Safer employees.

In addition to the above, the Benefits Administrator is responsible for coordinating the annual United Way campaign including the Day of Caring event; Safer’s quarterly “Capturing the Values” campaign; the annual All Staff Assembly; and, collaborating with other team members to present at the monthly New Employee Orientation sessions. Additionally, facilitates several of Safer’s Performance Appraisal Review Sessions as well as being part of the interview panels for hiring events.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administers the enrollment, termination and recordkeeping for the various employee benefit programs and insures that this is performed according to the highest standards of accuracy, quality and customer service in accordance with federal and state regulations and plan provisions. Reviews and processes monthly billings from insurance providers accurately and expeditiously.
  • Maintains and archives HR records, including enrollments, applications, and claims records for all benefit plans are in accordance with the Records Retention guidelines.
  • Prepares and completes, according to specification and within specified timeframes, reports and applications as required by law. Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits.
  • Develops, within proscribed timeframes, benefit information, statistical, and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers, and management. Recommends, implements and updates HR procedures and processes to initiate effective delivery of benefits programs.

 

  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with the various providers to resolve benefit-related problems and to ensure effective utilization of benefits plans.
  • Serves and host and coordinator of annual Open Benefits Enrollment meetings in a timely manner. Coordinates and provides regular employee communications regarding the various benefits plans and programs offered so that employees can make informed benefits decisions.
  • Inputs and maintains complete, accurate audit ready records in the HRIS at all times and compiles and maintains reports from the HRIS database, as needed.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills and a basic knowledge of benefit plan designs.
  • General knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting employee benefit programs.
  • Excellent communication (oral & written), organization, and interpersonal skills. Ability to clearly communicate benefits to employees including working alongside external plan administrators and partners.  
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with payroll/employee databases; ADP preferred.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with both internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to effectively plan and set priorities. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR Management or related discipline
  • 3 to 5 years’ successful experience administering employee benefits plans and programs.
