Job Summary:
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is seeking an IT Technical Associate (Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer).  The Sr. Network Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability and integrity of data, wireless, video and voice network services. Resolves complex technical problems.  Provides technical skills that cover a broad range of disciplines in support of UI Health strategic initiatives. Performs any technical project assigned with general supervision. Identifies, investigates, evaluates and becomes proficient in new technologies and technical disciplines that are of significance to UI Health.  May provide guidance and training for less experienced Network Engineers.
In addition to the minimum/preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will have extraordinary analytical and design ability; very high degree of creativity; in depth knowledge of the business implications of technical approaches, directions and solutions; ability to innovate in highly complex technical areas; ability to achieve results; project planning and coordination skills.
 
Duties:
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
 
  • Responsible for the daily maintenance and troubleshooting of the network infrastructure and various technologies using network management and analytical tools.
  • Troubleshoot and correct technology and equipment related production issues with LAN, WAN, routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless, VOIP and video systems.
  • Install, configure and maintain network infrastructure systems - set up telecommunication system and internet connectivity links.
  • Willingness to work beyond core business hours, if necessary to minimize business interruption.
  • Assist in development of network infrastructure specifications and standards.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • ​On-call 24x7 operational support.
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:
1.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Information Systems or related field of study .   
2. A minimum of six years experience supporting and maintaining a network infrastructure in an enterprise-wide, high traffic environment. 
3.Demonstrated production deployment experience with firewalls, switches, routers, load balancers, IDS/IPS, VPN technology, SAN infrastructure, IP telephony, video systems, wireless systems, network management tools, encryption

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with data center management.
  • A firm understanding of the Open Systems Interface (OSI) Technology/Standards model.
  • Experience with unified messaging, call center, and video conferencing systems.
  • Hands on experience with Cisco network infrastructure equipment. 
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
