Description: Job Summary:

 

The University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System is seeking a Training and Development Specialist I (IT Training).   Reporting to the Manager of IS Training, the Training and Development Specialist I (IS Training) delivers learning and organizational development interventions to effectively on-board, train, coach, and measure performance of hospital staff in meeting established organizational goals. Work is focused on developing and delivering clinical systems training to employees and physicians who use the Health Care Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and other clinical/reporting systems on an on-going basis, as well as consulting with medical staff to provide EMR/clinical systems training services to hospital and ambulatory clinic staff.

 
 
Duties: Key Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Identifies development needs within the organization on the basis of requests, ongoing needs assessments, and other indicators such as employee opinion or system upgrades. Determines and communicates appropriate intervention based on results of needs assessment.
  • Delivers role and skill-based training to a wide range of audiences, up to and including senior executives, as well as small and large groups.
  • Develops and maintains training materials, reference guides, and eLearning materials available through a variety of sources. Keeps contents up-to-date in a timely manner to ensure employees have most current information.
  • Participate in the delivery and content of organization-wide EMR training program including, but not limited to, program design, development, and maintenance of training materials in compliance with The Joint Commission requirements and ongoing quality improvement initiative.
  • Manages pre-and post-learning activities, communications and materials. Provides support to end users and addresses questions or problems as needed.
  • Measures and reports on training analytics such as attendance, course completion, assessment scores and learning impact, among other things.
  • Continuously updates programs based on feedback.
  • Identifies system change management needs via requests, ongoing needs assessment and other indicators such as employee opinion or system updates. With support from others, determines and designs development interventions in response to identified needs. Communicates and implements appropriate interventions based on results of needs assessment.
  • Consults with leaders on system issues impacting individual, departmental, and organizations performance. With support from others, designs and delivers customized system development interventions to address issues.
  • Consults with business partners, delivers individual and team coaching for staff. Exercises independent judgment to address specific issues that require risk assessment in line with organizational system objectives, goals, or policies.
  • Works with various teams in the organization to identify, investigate and resolve system concerns and issues.
  • Maintains clinical training systems as appropriate.
  • Assists with various special projects and other duties as requested

Qualifications:  Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

  1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling four years (48 months), from the categories below:
  1. credit for college training leading to a major or concentration in education or other fields related to training and development such as human resource administration or business administration or closely related fields
  • 30 semester hours equals 12 months
  • 60 semester hours equals 24 months
  • 90 semester hours equals 36 months
  • 120 semester hours or a Bachelor’s Degree equals 48 months
  1. credit for college training leading to a major or concentration in fields other than those previously listed
  • Bachelor’s Degree equals 3 years (36 months)
  • Master’s Degree equals 4 years (48 months)
  1. work experience as a human resource or training professional
  1. Two years of professional work experience in the training and development profession.1

1A Master's degree in education or other fields closely related to training and development (such as human resource administration or business administration) or a Master's degree with a concentration in these fields may be substituted for one year of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Adult Education, or clinical area of study.
  • A minimum of two-years system training experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of major healthcare systems and applications, for example, EMR, Cerner, Epic, Eclipsys, etc..
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and multiple training environments, computer based training, and blended learning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of system training development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated system training delivery skills.
  • Ability to manage goals and deadlines while handling multiple projects.
  • Ability to consult and interact with various levels of leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as, in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional project teams.
  • Proficient in Adobe Captivate and Microsoft Offices for the production of training materials.
  • Strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
