PPG Industrial Coatings produces coatings for appliances, agricultural and construction equipment, consumer electronics, automotive parts, residential and commercial construction, wood flooring and many other finished products.

Located in Oak Creek, Wisconsin (suburb of Milwaukee) in one of the largest coatings manufacturing plants in the world and reporting to the Materials Manager, the Procurement Supervisor is responsible for the procurement of materials at the Industrial Coatings plant and ensuring we have quality product on time, to support business goals and objectives that meet customer needs.

Accountabilities include improving on-time product metrics, days of inventory on hand, and monitoring vendor “delivery” performance.  The position is also responsible for managing and enhancing supplier performance through standardized processes and continuous improvement efforts to obtain optimal results related to quality, cost, delivery, and service.   Coming into this role, the Supervisor must be able to quickly asses and learn the operations, material flow, customers and suppliers while also providing strong leadership, mentorship, growth and development to a knowledgeable team of three Raw Material Coordinators who are engaged in procuring materials.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance of purchasing information in databases such as Tandem, VMI, Target+, RM Daily, WITS and Recoverable Assets. 
  • Supervises short and long-term procurement strategies designed to reduce cost and improve quality and service.
  • Works closely with Scheduling, Production, Quality Assurance, Technical, Product Management, and Corporate Purchasing to meet all of our customers’ needs in a timely and complete manner using procurement software and systems. 
  • Collaborate with other PPG locations to share and move inventory utilizing the Tandem OS system. 
  • Placement of orders with international suppliers and the coordination of material flow utilizing the Corporate International Distribution Team. 
  • Participate as necessary on teams in support of physical inventory, Lean, EHS, 5S and re-cost.
  • Manage and improve data integrity of raw material deliveries into the factory by working with the procurement team through process improvement, standard work management, and tactical support and execution.
  • Measure, analyze, and improve procurement performance in terms of on-time delivery, service, quality, and cost.
  • Ensure root cause analysis is performed in areas of non-performance and drive effective corrective action.
  • Identifies and resolves any issues related to procurement to minimize the risk of interrupted supply.
  • Develop team members and work to actively engage the team in process improvement and career development. 
  • Create and maintain enthusiasm for new and challenging goals among the team and identify opportunities for process improvement and execute a plan to improve and innovate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Business or Technical field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of procurement and materials management experience within a chemicals or manufacturing company
  • At least two (2) years of supervisory experience in procurement
  • Experience with MRP and PC applications (Word, Excel and Access)

 

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Required Qualifications)

  • APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP) or ISM certification (CPSM)
  • Oracle ERP experience
