Tax Staff / Tax Consultant
*these 3 positions will be filled in Indianapolis, IN

The Tax Accountant will be a member of the tax provision, tax compliance, and/or state and local tax teams. Depending on experience, the Tax Accountant’s primary responsibility will be to prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns/estimates and/or prepare assigned companies’ quarterly and annual tax accounting calculations (tax provision). This position includes opportunities for tax research, continuous improvement project work, and rotation among assignments within the corporate tax department.

Essential duties will include (but not be limited to) some or all of the following based on background, experience, and departmental need:

  • Prepares quarterly tax account provision calculations and analysis.
  • Prepares assigned companies’ federal and state income tax returns.
  • Prepares quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments.
  • Prepares premium tax, personal property tax and other tax returns, estimates, and other filings.
  • Analyzes and reviews the tax calculations of the investment system.
  • Analyzes and reviews the tax books of the fixed asset system.
  • Researches tax laws and regulations to support tax calculations and positions.
  • Analyzes tax legislative and regulatory changes to determine impact to Anthem.
  • Performs “what-if” modeling analysis.
  • Actively looks for process improvements and tax savings.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • BS/BA in Accounting or other relevant major required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Up to 5 years of experience in tax, accounting, and/or auditing.
  • Experience in federal and/or state tax, fixed asset accounting, and/or investment accounting preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of general ledger accounting preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and problem solving skills required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Strong working knowledge of PC and software applications required.
