HERC is the only non-profit organization devoted to connecting exceptional professionals with careers at higher education and affiliated employers. The Greater Chicago Midwest Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (GCM HERC) is one of 17 regional HERC chapters and enables Chicagoland higher educational institutions to recruit and retain the most excellent and diverse workforce. We also assist dual-career couples in finding jobs within a commutable distance.  Currently, 25 colleges, universities, and research institutions benefit from GCM HERC’s resources and tools.

The GCM HERC Director is a key member of the HERC team and is responsible for maintaining and expanding HERC regionally by facilitating up-to-date information resources, technologies, and a professional network to help member institutions with recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and executives.   Under the direction of the Central HERC Director, the GCM HERC Director will develop processes and practices to maintain and expand the GCM HERC and provide significant program leadership to constituent member institutions and their representatives. The GCM HERC Director is an exempt position. Exempt employees are expected to work the appropriate and necessary time in order to complete key assignments and related tasks on schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Membership Recruitment, Communication and Outreach  
  • Cultivate new institutional memberships.
  • Develop regular communications with members to increase engagement and ensure renewals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date member and prospective member contact lists.
  • Plan and produce bi-annual professional development and networking events for member institutional representatives.
  • Promote HERC-wide events and benefits to members and potential members.
  • Diversity Initiatives - Attend specialized job fairs for veterans, disabled individuals, women, and underrepresented minorities in the region to promote the GCM HERC and maintain contact with organizations that serve these groups.
  • Research and form regional organizational partnerships that contribute to HERC’s mission. 
  • Provide data on diversity outreach to member institution representatives.
  • Dual-Career Initiatives - Facilitate collaboration among member representatives when dual-career needs arise.
  • Regularly distribute dual-career materials to member institutions.
  • Promote the assistance the HERC job board can provide dual-career jobseekers to members’ Faculty Affairs, Human Resources, Graduate Studies, and Alumni websites.
  • Project Planning, Regional Governance and Evaluation Coordinate regular meetings of the GCM HERC Advisory Council and develop the agenda in consultation with the Council chair.
  • Collaborate with HERC’s Central Office to a evaluate program impact and member satisfaction.
  • Financial Management - Develop an annual budget in consultation with the GCM HERC Advisory Council and provide regular income and expense reports.
  • Meet or exceed annual revenue goals and seek additional funding streams.
  • Manage the annual membership renewals and dues collection process.
  • Technology - Manage website technologies crucial to the role such as: Content Management Systems (CMS) and Association Management Software (AMS). 
  • Onboard new members to HERC’s job board and member community.
  • Troubleshoot any member job posting or other membership technology issues in collaboration with HERC’s Central Office and/or technology vendors.
  • Able to collaborate effectively within a complex national organization while working independently and accomplishing self-directed goals in a timely manner. 
  • Comfortable with technology and highly proficient with MS Office Suite, Cloud Based document storage, and database management. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree and at least three years of project management experience, including financial, operational, technology and/or marketing responsibilities or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Familiarity with the Greater Chicago Midwest region.  Demonstrated effectiveness as a persuasive communicator.  Superior interpersonal skills to manage diverse stakeholder needs.  Experience working in higher education necessary

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

The incumbent generally will meet bi-weekly with the chair of the GCM HERC and should be available for monthly phone meetings with the Central HERC Executive Director, who is the supervisor of the GCM HERC Director.

COMPENSATION:

Starting salary is $32,000 (20 hours/week), depending on experience. Eligible for partial employer paid health, dental, vision benefits.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard. Ability to sit at a computer for at least four hours. Ability to speak clearly on the phone and in person. Ability to occasionally lift boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to travel by air.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a telecommuting position that is flexible both in terms of work schedule and work location. The candidate must live within a commutable distance of Chicago and have the ability to meet in person with GCM HERC Advisory Council leadership from time to time.
