Berger Excavating Contractors, Inc. is a large civil contractor specializing in mass earthwork, excavation and underground utilities located in Wauconda, IL (Lake County).

 

Job Description / Rolls and Responsibilities:

Berger Excavating Contractors, Inc. is seeking an estimator for commercial and highway projects in our Wauconda Office.  Duties include searching for bid opportunities, analyzing bid documents, preparing plan take off calculations, preparing cost estimates and assembling bid packages.  Prepare cost estimates for multiple disciplines including erosion control, earthwork, concrete, mass grading, and underground utilities.  Upon contract award, the individual would negotiate and execute agreements with subcontractors and suppliers and work with field and project management staff to successfully deliver projects.

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree – Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Related Degree
• Minimum of 5 years experience in Highway, Tollway, Streets & Roads, and/or Airfields markets
  • Familiarity in both Public and Private Markets
  • Ability to Estimate multiple projects at one time; excellent organizational & time management skills
  • Ability to work independently, with strong attention to detail, and ability to resolve issue/problems
• Extensive experience with cost estimating programs, preferably HCSS HeavyBid
• Familiar with Illinois Department of Transportation and Tollway specifications

 

Required Skills

• Proficient in MS Excel, MSWord and HCSS or B2W
• Proficient is Agtek and Carlson takeoff software
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to work as a team member           
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to review and evaluate drawings, specifications, and other deliverables to ascertain the necessary take-offs
